narnia
i read all the books when i was a kid. that'll do for me on that front
it's just an excuse to make another potter-esque series using the pack 'em, stack 'em and rack 'em method

wow, how come?
because the movie is pure crap. the protagonists are 4 characterless nazi kids.
the story is bad but the way they narrated it makes it even more shit.
and the whole movie is just a loveless repetition of standard adventure-film situations and gestures done twice as good in a shitload of other movies.

lols.. true. I saw it in my Vietnam War in Film class and sat there for about 10 minutes after class wondering what I had just seen. I had tears in my eyes, but I had been awake for about 36 hours before going to class. I'm not saying they weren't genuine because of they movie, but I'm sure my emotional state was a little messed up. In any case, the end of that movie is one of the most moving things I've ever seen. The film actually inspired the guy who pushed Congress to fund the Vietnam War Memorial.
"America needed a memorial to the men and women lost in Vietnam in a war that many Americans preferred to forget,” Scruggs wrote in an online photo documentary protect on the memorial presented by the Smithsonian Institution, “In 1979, after I saw the movie The Deer Hunter, the dream became an obsession.”

did you see the version where the lead female character has a nasty hedge-maze of a bush? I think 1984's been made two or three times
Yes that's the one I saw and she also had some nasty armpit hair.

i'm on a major MST3K binge atm
seen: Puma Man (Donald Pleasance tries to take over the world with an Aztec mask that's actually from OUTER SPACE but is thwarted by Puma Man and his square-jawed Aztec sidekick

); and Prince of Space (utterly hilarious japanese sci-fi idiocy where Phantom from planet Krangcore, complete with the stupidest costume ever, tries to take over the world and is thwarted by the equally poorly costumed Prince of Space and some annoying kids. basically it's rehash of Invasion of the Neptune Men, or IOTNM is a rehash of it, i'm not sure. either way, it's comedy gold

)

transporter 2 - 5/10
pure high-octane idiocy from start to finish. the plot holes were more gaping than the plot, and jason statham STILL has a weak american accent

Pretty good mobster flick. Nothing about it really set it apart from most of the others I've seen.

Narnia - 5/10
Stupid story, silly characters, half-hearted special effects. Felt just like an attempt to make a cheap cash-in by piggybacking on the success of the LotR movies.
It was ok entertainment, and I guess the kids do like it, but I wasn't impressed.

Watch the unrated version, it's even funnier.
The Island - 7/10 mostly for the effects, not really any acting to speak of. Better than I thought, but there were some stupid discontinuities, but I wasn't expecting much.
The Great Raid - 5/10 Over-romanticized dramatization of the American raid on the Cabanatuan POW camp in the Philippines. Rife with shitty acting and too emphasis on sappy subplot elements. They really reached to inflate the personal dramatic moments, and the conflicts of opinion between the two ranking officers on the raid were pathetic. What should have been a real source of tension and confrontation was a big let down.
"Hey Colonel, we should wait longer before the raid. Your timeline sucks."
"What? We should...oh, OK."
