Jazz - as Geebs said - is at least as pretentious in many its incarnations. Worst of all, the now-infamous Fusion-type of "music": Horrible sounding, prentenious and not musical at all.
At least by alot of peoples' opinions in here, eh K.-Burger? Play alot and you're a bad musician.
yeah Birdland is musical garbage that pretty much isn't even music

I listened to Kind of Blue again the other day and was disappointed that I was right in remembering it as ambient piffle.

@Big K. Burger: Where did I post that? Are you really that retarded? Did you even understand a single one of my postings? Do you even play guitar? If so, let us hear what you are capable of, please.
edit: just to clarify a little more - I am not bashing Jazz. I just don't like to listen to Fusion. I am neither a big fan of Yngve M. I happen to like different kinds of music which don't have to played extremely fast. It is just hilarious that most people (who do not even play an instrument) put "feeling" vs. "speed" which is total bullshit. Especially if you put Jazz vs. Shred.

right about here:

is where you said you thought 'that fusion-type' "music" was "horrible and not musical at all".
and with Heavy Weather being the quintessential fusion album, you can see where i got that from. its just funny you and other people hate on jazz because it's an elitist art form. all the best jazz players are stuck up cunts (like myself) but don't worry, i'm still miles away from being a big a cunt as Yngwie

I also said "in many its incarnations". As I said already, I do not like Fusion because it is highly pretentious and I find it funny that you (and many other jazz-"elitists") put "feeling" vs. "speed".
And on Yngwie being a cunt - do you personally know him or did you get that by media?
Moreover, you claim you play jazz, and you rank yourself among their best ones. Do you have a recorded piece of music? I'd like to hear you playing, seriously.

A couple friends of mine are event planners for a group of parks around here and one of them plays bluegrass with several different bands. Every month they hold a full moon picking party with some bluegrass bands on stage. Anybody who brings an instrument in with them gets discounted admission, and a lot of people gather round all over the place and play music during the breaks.
It's great. Sometimes I have to work the beer/admission table when they're low on help though.

Amen to that, brother plained. That's exactly what I was trying to explain: There's loads of great guitarists and at the end of the day, it's all in your personal taste in music: I listen to alot of different kind of music (- Fusion, that throws me off because it's so boring) and I try to broaden my horizon as often as I can.
A "good" guitarist has got his/her own style. That's all I can say - Kirk Hammet? No, he is fast, sure. But he does not have anything "special" and oustanding (to me at least). Zakk Wylde - hell, yes, especially his Country-influenced playing. Joe Satriania? Who am I kidding? Yngve? Yes, because there is nobody who does this kind of style with such outstanding clarity, speed, dexterity and devotion to the craft itself. Larry Carlton? Yep, you can tell he is playing. Joe Pass? Awesome player...

Someone showed me this last night, although the guitar playing isn't that complex (though, with the drumming it makes it damn hard) it sounds good.

No dynamics in the entire fricking album. Now, Songs in the Key of Life, for example, is a fucking good album with jazzy bits in.

Some jazz is completely awesome, some jazz is just people masturbating (each other) with instruments. Nuff said.
