I tried the demo with the controller and it was impossible for meJooKed wrote:Ive never played Guitar Hero untill now. I just did the Demo with my controller, and its so difficult, even on medium mode. I was wondering, is the controller harder to use than the guitar? Also, does anyone experience a drawback period where they play a song over and over, but their score seems to progressivly worse untill the next day you try? I dont know..

I thought about that too, but if you're going to emulate a guitar that much, you might as well play a real one.Tsakali_ wrote:well just an idea, I am obviously not bashing video gaming since I do it myself, but I figured if there was a way to at least take a step toward the right direction (read: something with strings) that would be a bit more genuine instead of pushing buttons and all.

Yeah, but learning the notes is not as fun as watching them on screen and doing it real time.
Re: Guitar Hero III
When will someone start keeping score when I strap on 8 different guns and run through the streets mowing down everyone I see? Sheesh all that time killing virtual enemies was such a waste!Tsakali_ wrote:well just an idea, I am obviously not bashing video gaming since I do it myself, but I figured if there was a way to at least take a step toward the right direction (read: something with strings) that would be a bit more genuine instead of pushing buttons and all.
Game, meet reality. Tsakali, meet game.
Jooked: I have the same problem ( scores get worse until I quit and try again another day), especially in medium mode and the easier songs in hard. I think the problem is that you've learned many parts of the song pretty well and you're just trying to get thru it, causing you to play much of it too fast. Solution: Move on to another song, or go back and 5 star something else.

So I just broke my guitar... I took it apart to modify the buttons for a shorter push and now the green and red buttons don't work. all the rest do.... so now i'm fucked until i can get a new one as I do not see what the fuck is wrong with it.
I also dremel'd off the plastic frets inbetween the buttons

Rip it apart again, double check the rubber on the micro board under the buttons.
Similar happened to my old ps2 one.

Did that 3-4 times... it's odd why it doesn't work. everything looks absolutely like it did before
Re: Guitar Hero III
How do you guys deal with a long string of the same note? Like, 20 red notes in a row, which are really close together. No matter how hard I try, I always seem to get off beat somehow. These seem to be the only thing stopping me from getting 100% on some songs. Still using the xbox controller by the way...
Re: Guitar Hero III
Listen to the song closely and strum to the beat they way you think it sounds repeatedly in practice mode.

Wha?.. Apparently, you've never learned the notes and played it with the music real time then. Much better rush.Turbine wrote:Yeah, but learning the notes is not as fun as watching them on screen and doing it real time.
Re: Guitar Hero III
that's exactly my point, but then again, learning how to play a guitar never really needed any extra incentives since people do it for fun anyway...ok fine keep the fucking guitar shaped controllerTurbine wrote:Yeah, but learning the notes is not as fun as watching them on screen and doing it real time.

I had exactly that problem last night. Then the problem just disappeared. HrmNightshade wrote:I'm getting intermittent contact on my green button and it's fucking pissing me off.

It's a really fun song to play once you get used to the rhythm and finger positioning.Geebs wrote:I've been trying to play Cliffs of Dover on the guitar and now my fingers hurt

Re: Guitar Hero III
try making sure the neck isn't wobbly on the guitar, if the contacts are making a good connection some of the frets can freak out.Nightshade wrote:I'm getting intermittent contact on my green button and it's fucking pissing me off.andyman wrote:So I just broke my guitar... Re: Guitar Hero III
This problem was confined to the green button only, and only when I pressed it hard. Being the electronics tech/electrical engineer/genius/porn star that I am, took it apart and tested it. I found nothing wrong with the button itself, it completed the circuit no matter how hard/light I pushed it. Then I looked at the neck/body connection and found that in addition to using this goofy spring-loaded pin contactor arrangement, there was some PCB mask material on the neck contacts that hadn't been completely removed. I took a blade and scraped it off and I haven't noticed a problem since.
I hate shitty process/quality control-induced problems like this, I think I'll go slap a Malaysian.

bah. last time it was a software problem, at least that could be easily fixed
Re: Guitar Hero III
And what exactly does being slightly to moderately skilled with a guitar do for you?Tsakali_ wrote:so like when will you be able to hook up a real guitar on there that way after you spend countless hours playing a video game, you just might gain an actual skill

my problem is something with the body of the guitar... the neck works fine, and with the shorter push on the buttons i can really tear it up effortlessly! This is so much better!

This game is fucking brilliant! Played it over a friends house last night and I am an addict. I will probably go and buy it later today and rock out all night long
