So are people just as shocked about Jon Snow getting the shaslick treatment as they were about the red wedding? I guess not, even though he's a fan favorite. Somehow I can't shake the feeling he's not really dead.

Also, I think Mat's on to something with Melissandre not praying to the right god so to speak. She seemed puzzled by the effect that burning Shireen had on the people. Brienne refers to Renly's murder as blood magic, the same thing that killed (or rather coma-ed) Khal Drogo. Melissandre is a lot about death and everything.
Also, sacrificing a child for good weather, while killing a man requires just a leech? Hmm.

They made a big point of Melisandre returning to the wall seemingly shell-shocked.
And one of the most important things in the whole series (books or TV shows) could come in to play here: the relationship between Thoros and Beric.
Thoros was a drunk and verging on non-believer status before war kicked in and magic started returning to the world (the supposition is that when the dragons were born, magic returned to Westeros). When he truly acknowledged the Lord of Light, he was able to raise Beric from the dead time and again.
As to Shireen being sacrificed to raise Jon? Nah; they emphasised Jon's pooling blood too lovingly in that closing shot. And everyone suspects that Jon has King's blood. She'll use his own blood to raise him. That also creates an interesting tension between Mellisandre and Jon.

Now with all that hooey out of the way, there's a narrative reason Jon's not dead.
Sam's left the Wall, and while Mellisandre and Davos are still there, they don't seem to have the narrative gravity of Jon Snow. So what reason is there to continue telling the story of the Night's Watch?

None of this is spoilerific by the way, as aside from a couple of threads, the show's completely caught up with the books now.

Interesting stuff mr. Linnett...

Wondering about Theon and Sansa also by the way, i took it as a suicide pact but the missus disagrees on the grounds that we didn't actually see them die.
