I haven't read about it much yet, from what I can see it's just an optimization. If there's no new chipset releasing with Kaby Lake after Z170 then I don't see why not get a Skylake now. You can always get a new CPU later.
BTW I turned off G-Sync and got an extra 500 points
You don't need a $1k 8 core cpu when a $300 quad will beat it every time for gaming. You spent an extra $700 for some scores on a benchmark. You probably have 32GB of ram also when its pretty much impossible for the average user to use 16.

I got that CPU because I felt like it.
A few other reasons are potential massive multi-core improvements in DX12 and going with X99 gives 16X/16X PCI-E lanes for SLI, Z170 is only 8X/8X.
That's interesting, thanks.
Your PC is impressive. Just not what a casual gamer like most people here would need. I didn't mean to sound like a dick, I just forgot you were that guy before I asked my original question.

Thanks. I guess I'm not the best person to offer advice on mainstream PC builds, but I still try to stay up-to-date with technology
My current PC. I'm curious to see how much better my new build will do.

AMD is always projecting bigger and better things. But somehow ends up second best. I wouldn't be holding out for a superior AMD chip. You may never upgrade.
Looks like the prices haven't dropped at all this past month or so. I'm glad I baught it a while back and enjoying it, instead of hopelessly waiting for a better deal. By the looks of it, unless amd releases anything good, the prices are here to stay.... It's selling very well , so what's their incentive to drop pricing?

My friends are mocking me for still not having bought a new PC. My new excuse is that I consider waiting for a decent laptop. I know that's always going to be at a premium price, but I realize that the way I use my current computer (a laptop as well) is something that can pretty much only be done with a laptop. Besides, if I were to buy a PC, I'd have to buy everything; monitor and keyboard included.
