It's called Cloud Gate, in Millennium Park in Chicago.

Of course, now my photo will suck, because I'm sure there are plenty of better pics of it out there. :o!

The original looks like crap. Blue cast...muted colours...no contrast...

:)

If I were you, I'd go back there during better light and take dozens more photos- exploring the reflective surface for unique POVs. Crazy blob of chrome that thing is!

werldhed wrote:Cool, thanks. I thought you needed multiple exposures to do that, but apparently not...
It works better if you take multiple exposures from the camera (setting AEB or possibly from RAW for example) but you can do it from JPG too.

Nice picture, what is it?

Since HDR is the new hot thing, I've been experimenting with it this morning.

I just discovered that my Nikon D50 can auto-bracket an exposure with 3 stops (lol noob me). So using 3 differently exposed jpegs, I've combined it into an HDR image with Photomatrix (Photoshop CS2 can do the trick too I believe). It wasn't difficult and the result is quite nice without looking too artificial. I'm going to shoot a lot more photos :-)

You can create an HDR images from a single RAW file. You'll have less dynamic range, but often it can look good too.

Here's an example, same view of my room. There's a bit more noise in the resulting image and it's less saturated.

that image bringt up some memories. i was stuck in that valley in 2005 for two days due to heavy rain. the freeway was partly destroyed, etc. we were in a traffic jam for about 7 hours and only made about 30km. then we slept next to some truckers on a parking lot.

It was about 15 degrees celcius in Innsbruck, I've been sitting in the sun drinking beer wearing only a shirt and trousers. The past ten years there has been snow in the city. What an inconvenient truth.
