But like I said, still good. Talking without having played the game is just dumb Mat.
same here, although in mat's defense - i don't see why he should really have to play the game before criticising it. he's clearly read up on it - which is more than most folks do before slagging something off.
loved the first fallout (the only arpuhguh i've ever completed). that, quake 1 and kingpin were installed on the borrowed machine i had at the time and i played them all far too much. with the old fallout, i was quite happy to suspend disbelief and sit there clicking away like some joystick-flicking paraplegic, making a bloody mess of wherever the desert took me.
enjoying fallout 3 too (lots), but as a sequel the style feels transplanted and watered down. personally i'd have liked a different style of game altogether (e.g. an fps) in the fallout universe rather than the iffy reinvention of something that wasn't broken. the IP was more than strong enough to carry it and the field would've been left open for a proper 'retro' sequel at some point.
edit:
google says interplay sold the rights for under $6million, i'd blame them before blaming bethesda for being bethesda (who seem to have spotted a good opportunity to make money from selling the same thing twice). my liking for fallout is skewing my evaluation but i'm sure you could work more than $6million out of it.
btw, wikipedia says fallout was based on wasteland and that the guy who made that has the rights to make another one.

Btw, have you heard about Civilization Revolution?
I don't like Tool full stop

Heard of revolution, and while I haven't followed it like Fallout, I hear it's a pale imitation of the PC versions.
Good enough if all you can afford is a console...

CivRev is actually quite good. the only thing thats really missing is resourcetrading.
if you take Civ4 for pc and set it to lightningspeed mode (or whatever its called), thats more or less CivRev.

I just started playing Fallout 3. It's okay, but I started playing Mass Effect at the same time and when played side by side, it's clear that Mass Effect is one of the best games ever made, up there with SS2 and Deus Ex, and Fallout 3 is a poorly put together game with enough glitz and slow motion to make people happy. It just feels too unpolished, it hurts the game with the animation, awkward combat, and bland, reused environments.

I thought fallout 3 was way better than mass effect. I guess that makes you a homo. A wrong one.

If you like Fallout 3 more than Mass Effect that makes you a RPG playing faggot.

alright... downtown DC just earned this game bonus points.
I'm upgrading it to a 7/10; and it should go up to 8 once mods are out that totally fix the character leveling perks etc.. issues.
just did the riley's rangers quest and spent a few hours wandering around the capital building/white house area and if you've ever been to DC (I have fond memories of trips there as a kid) It's very well done and the warzone is good fun.
I was slightly disappointed by the capitol itself, since riley's crew was saying that the talon company bitches were all over the capitol so I was hoping that was a hint that their base was there and I could go in and paint the walls with punk bitch entrails... alas, it was just a private war between them and the muties with no real rewards inside (a few books and enough gear to make money obsolete is all). Though walking into a battle and wiping out both sides still does hold some entertainment value.
edit:
downgraded back to 6 once i got back onto the main plot; so shitty. and god; the seizure robot character animations when two npcs are having a conversation are god awful. they should have just made cut-scenes like everyone else does.

this game was awful. go play bioshock, crysis/warhead, left4dead, or put your penis in a vagina for a better time.

Sorry, I missed that because the snotty, do-gooding cow who keeps following me around was delivering a rant about how nice it is to be nice and I was pretending to listen in the hope she'd show me some side boob

Nah, just mass effect really. On reflection, the ending of fallout 3 is terrible but no worse than fallout 2. Still an 8/10 though

Yeah, the ending was a bit naff... But I think the biggest issue is, unlike Oblivion, you cant keep playing after. The ending probably would of been better if you could. But i see why they did it.

If by Babylon 5, you mean 'better than Fallout 3', then yes. Yes it is.

I bet Pauly played Mass Effect as a woman in hopes to see some girl on girl.
Prolly has a whole folder of screenies.
Prolly all gay porn, too.

I'd rate Bablyon 5 as being slightly above a good swift kick in the balls, but just below a slap in the face with a wet fish on my personal enjoyablilty scale

I have to admit that I am getting a tad bored with fallout 3 and I still have tons of stuff to do.
Fast travel is nice, but walking at a snail's pace to locations a few miles away...bleh.
I liked Oblivion more I think.

Ok, finished this game. My list of complaints:
-character animations are bad (especially noticeable in conversations)
-dialogue and voice acting are sub-par a lot of the time
-traversing the DC metro tunnels to get to downtown places gets repetitive and tedious
-ending is anticlimatic and cheap. The entire storyline is relatively short and shallow in general. And what the fuck were they thinking with that giant robot at the end?
Is this a good Fallout game? No. Is this still a really good game anyway? Hell yes.
IMO, they just really nailed the exploration aspect of the game. The world is well realized and there are a lot of interesting places and secrets to find. In general, I found pursuing random side quests and exploring the world more enjoyable than following the main quest. Leveling up is also enjoyable as the skill and perk systems are well developed. I also like VATS.
The character conversation aspect of the game is its biggest failing IMO. Having said that, I still think Bethesda tried to make it work to the best of their ability. I appreciate their attempt to provide depth to the game's conversations by making skills and stats affect the dialogue. Having a high speech skill impacted a lot of conversations, and I found many dialogue options that came about because of my stats. Sadly, they just don't have the voice-acting talent (maybe they blew their whole budget on Liam Neeson) nor the game engine (it obviously isn't suited for expressive character emotions) to really make the conversation system work.
I hope in the future they get better writers (esp. for the main plot) and update the game engine to make character expressions be in line with those in Mass Effect.
