oh god, i can see it now. the young'uns need a Jedi master to teach them the ways of the Force so they can defeat the bad guy so they go looking for Luke who turns out to be living in Ben's old house on Tatooine

Lucas had an idea for nine, but apparently got sick of the franchise. also, i don't think the sequel trilogy is going to be based on the stories that were written back then

then again, i could be wrong, i'm not really a Star Wars loremaster sergeant of extreme loremasters :dts:

Did he even have stories for all 9 back then? Based on eps 1-3 I'm gonna say... ... ... no.

The original release did not have the New Hope subtitle.
The third trilogy was written at some point - Luke started the Jedi Academy, married the assassin who originally tried to kill him, etc - but Disney nixed the entire EU after the announcement of Ep7. So they could make a new trilogy without the burden of all that lore.
Lots of angry neckbeards as you can imagine.

Oh shit... well now... if he isn't, I reckon I'll be kinda disappointed.

However - isn't that Luke at about 1:40 (mechanical hand, hermit robes and R2D2)?
