Concerning Rey (and some gender blabla):
I loved the character in the first half of the movie: The combination of naivity, resignation and kindness was compelling to watch and Daisy Ridley gives a pretty good performance: As an example take the scene where she first meets Han her eyes light up like a child meeting santa ~
On the other hand I felt she partly degenerates to a generic action heroine once captured - think of scarlet johannson in avengers or kate beckinsale in underworld. But then again there's the reunion scene with Finn which makes more than up for it.

I'm really looking forward to the dynamics between her and luke in episode 8. I just hope that mark hamil can act well enough so that they won't have to keep it short.
Concerning Finn and Poe:
Their chemistry during the escape was one of the best parts of the movie: It was very refreshing to see them dislpay propper relief, even surprise after shooting down the tie fighters. Especially when contrasted to the two dominant tonalities applied in action sequences over the last years; On the one hand the tongue-in-cheek mixture of slapstic power fantasies and "we are the heroes of the movie *wink wink*" banter of the marvel or hobbit movies; On the other hand the uber-tough pseudorealistic fights popularized by the bourne movies. I'm not saying that these styles are not good but it felt very refreshing to feel some genuine adventure again.

Hamill did the voice of The Joker in the animated Batman TV series. Don't worry, the dude can act.
just got back from wathcing
Some good moments, but overall found it boring. Not a huge star wars geek by any stretch so maybe that's why I didn't appreciate it as much, but as a movie, just looked like a lot of money was put into it and not much soul
When do you stop using the "spoiler" tags? Hasn't everyone worried about spoilers already seen the movie.

Caught the noon IMAX showing today and it was still packed. Definitely the best version to watch. That's 3 for me and I think I'm done till the bluray is out.

I saw it in IMAX first time around. No 3D for me. Don't really like it, and most film makers don't either, so I try to watch it how I think they'd like for me to see it.

I'd like to see it again, but instead I think I'm gonna go watch The Hateful Eight in 70mm. It's only available in that format for a few more days...

The 3D was subtle and very well done. Either way there wasn't an option anywhere near here for IMAX without 3D.

The first two times I saw it on just 4K "monster screens" but comparing it to the double projected IMAX the screen was just way too dark and you lose a lot of detail with crushed blacks.

I read there was only 7 screens in the US that were showing it in true 70mm. Most around here are Digital IMAX which is two 2k projectors overlapping on the same screen.

Oh really? There's only one theater in the state showing it (supposedly) in 70mm. I talked to the theater and they said it was 70mm, but who knows. They might be blowing smoke up my ass...

it wasn't filmed native 3D, which has two important implications. First, director's intent was 2D. Second, post process 3D is shit compared to native 3D.

From what I understand, Abrams was pretty upset that only a few theatres would show it in 70mm 2D.

Ok so I went with the lady to see this today, and I have some thoughts. Not read the thread yet just in case of spoilers, so I will do that after this post.
So the first thing is that is a good film, but I feel like I have seen it before. It seemed like it borrowed a little too much from the original.
 • The sound effects were outstanding.
 • BB8 was awesome and I want one. A real one.
 • Finn was a dude, and I like his story.
 • Rey was fun, but reminded me Keira Knightly. She is also Luke's daughter for sure.
 • Kylo Ren was a brilliant character, brilliantly played by Adam Driver. The lady gasped as he took off his mask and said "He was naked in 'Girls'". I don't know what this is, but it made me laugh. Also he reminded me Snape from Harry Potter.
 • The New Order reminded me of space nazi's and what is not to hate about space nazi's?
Things I didn't like so much;
 • Death Star 3.0 - All of it.
 • It took too much from 'A New Hope' so felt like a retelling of the original with a twist
 • Too many places - desert, snow, jungle, space, space stations, ships - felt like too much fan service at once.
One final thing;

Han Sol-owned - AMIRITE?!
As soon as Ben (Han did shout Ben, yeah? Rather than Ken? Thought it might have tied back to Ben Kenobi?) walked on the bridge, I knew Han was done for. Gutted, bro.
