I'm actually going to a concert (Dream Theater w/Devin Townsend as support act) today for the first time in a verrrrrry long time.
Like it never happened for sure.....

There is little evidence of Covid about here. The couple of testing sites rarely have traffic and there's maybe 1 in 100 wearing a mask in public. I still wash my hands more frequently than pre-Covid and being over 60, had the 4th vaccine shot :)

Entertainment: We when out to our first live stage performance last night at the local Events Centre and enjoyed a tribute act, The Robertson Brothers.

I am venturing to the movies and catching Cruise in Top Gun, big screen tomorrow.

Yeah, it's become pretty normal around here. Nobody wears masks anymore. It's amazing that were's at a point where 15,000 deaths in a month from Covid-19 isn't even an afterthought on the news or in the public consciousness.

Yes weird like a dream.

It is rare to see a mask here too. I think public transport* and medical (Doctor) businesses still require masks be worn.

*Yep. just checked,

We've hit the point in governance here in America where 3,000+ deaths a day was unfathomable but 500 deaths a day is totally acceptable and the cost of the economy.

Yep. The American people were unwilling to accept a new 9/11 every day. But if it only happens once a week.....

Same here in Germany.
Let the (good) times roll....

Today was the opening day of Oktoberfest 2022 in Munich and I attended it. Only because my father got seats through some connections. We went with the whole family. Usually I don't attend the "Wiesn".
Can you imagine a bigger mega-spreader-event than that? :).
I went anyway. Honestly, I don't care anymore. Even my parents, vulnerable group, don't care.

I'll do tests from coming monday through the week in the mornings to check up before I leave for work. Will make sure to not bring it into that environment.

Don't know the exact situation in the US, but over here it's simply a case of our healthcare system being able to cope with the relatively few cases we still have.

We have about 10 deaths a week on a population of 17 million people. Due to the summer, the virus hasn't gone around nearly as much and because of Omicron, those who did get it generally didn't get very sick. This month our government has started a second booster vaccine round for the old & weak and those who work in relevant healthcare jobs in preparation of fall and winter, but the general populace is convinced COVID has gone and isn't coming back.

Personally I think it's a tad too early to call victory (at least wait until spring 2023) but we are way ahead of where we were around this time last year.

Edit: the US has a population of about 332 million people according to census.gov, that's almost 19 times as many as here, which means 3500 deaths per week is more than 18 times as many deaths as we have here, relative to the population sizes.

There were folks even then who were willing. Just got my updated, bivalent Pfizer booster yesterday. Sore injection site so far.

It should be considered that while we embrace "let her rip" approach is that long covid is being predicted to lead to long-term disabilities, shorter lifespans, and a crippled workforce that will take generations to recover from. It's a complete and total lack of governance in favor of capitalism.

It's looking more and more like Long Covid is its own thing, kind of like how chickenpox can reactivate in the body years later as shingles.

In some instances. Covid is an arterial disease and causes blood clots. No one can tell where the blood clots stop or what they will affect. That's why symptoms are all over the damn place. Looking forward to more research on this subject as I stay vigilant.

If I understand this video correctly, getting exposed (not necessarily infected) to SARS-COV-2 once in a while will prevent such reactivations.

but by getting exposed one would increase their risk of infection. Also, the risk of long covid increases with each reinfection.

Yes, we've heard of the blood clot issue here and we too will stay vigilant.

On a related note :smirk: I still have 12+ pump packs of hand sanitiser in my cupboard downstairs. I thought to give them away to friends & neighbours but had second thoughts so I'll keep my stash.

Doesn't a vaccine "expose" you to the virus? An annual booster sounds like the most likely, and most logical future.

1) No, there isn’t a live virus in the MRNA vaccine

“None of the vaccines authorized for use in the U.S. contain a live virus. mRNA and viral vector vaccines are the two types of currently authorized COVID-19 vaccines available.”

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... facts.html

2) Good thread on where we are. 1 in 5 cases suffer from Long Covid.

We still have our stash and keep our inventories stocked like it’s the beginning of the pandemic. The way I see it is, while no one cares supplies are bountiful and costs are low. Once we get more spikes or scares, that will change. :)

However, I doubt the world will ever care like they did at the beginning whuch still fell short of what we needed to prevent where we are now.

We were warned by experts that if we didn’t address this in the beginning, it would be more costly in the long run and they were right.
