rockstar advises not to install gta5 on 360, as it causes slowdowns.
it has been reported that installing it on a usb drive fixes this problem.

Well, they're advising not installing the play disc. Apparently it comes on a play disc and an install disc. You are supposed to install the install disc (could even be that this is mandatory).

it is. the install disc contains all of the global assets like the city layout, textures, etc. the play disc has the missions and voice work n stuffs.

I had to clear out a ton of crap out of my HD just to install the 1st disk... installing the second wasn't gonna happen anyway.

In all honesty I simply haven't had time to visit this place as much anymore. I stopped doing remote support work and I'm doing desk side work now. It keeps me pretty busy.
