He watched every single episode and that was just his obviously transparent attempt at bullshitting a way to comment on the finale because he just couldn't help himself. What a pathetic cunt.

Okay buddy, okay.

Dexter didn't so much jump the shark as it did slip on the treadmill [zing].

This is one of the biggest issues I have with the series, as a whole. They make Dexter (and sometimes other characters) pull of this Sherlock Holmes super-sleuth shit and I just don't buy it. Sometimes, they pad the ridiculous leaps and feats Dexter accomplishes with dialogue where characters admit that something seems crazy, but, oh well, that's life, and it seems slightly more believable that way.

By the way, re: ending

SPOILERS OBVS HOMIES

I have to admit, I was a little taken by surprise. I have wondered how this series will end for many years. My candidates were the same as almost everyone else's, probably: He gets caught and/or executed. He dies in some way not related to judicial retribution (suicide or at the hand of his final foe). Or, he gets away with everything and we get to leave the series on that deliciously deviant note that attracted most of us in the first place. Wrong on all counts. He fakes his death, abandons his family, and starts a new life in a new place. I have to admit, I didn't see that coming, and in that way, I guess I sort of respect the writers for doing it. I look forward to reading staff interviews in the future to get a better handle on what exactly happened and why they wrote it that way.

Good show. Not sure if it's a great show, though. I think the very last episode is one of the only times in the entire series I really felt anything approximating a powerful emotional reaction.
This line only remake is total rubbish I've ever seen!!! Fuck off!!! --CZghost

Michael C Hall had said in the past that Dexter would never face his end through the legal system.

For the most part I thought it was all pretty stupid and was about to totally dismiss it because of the hurricane. But the last scene was actually a pretty good ending.

Yeah I agree - first time I got some emotions other than being annoyed out of watching dexter; I actually liked the lumberjack ending. But it would have been better if he would have stared out of the window until the end of the last shot instead of giving a dexter look into the camera.

Just leaving him in his personal purgatory of having lost all of his family instead of hinting at his dark side again would have made better impact.

Sexton's arrest and death was anticlimactic. I was expecting an epic one on one face-off between monsters in the heart of the hurricane. Instead, they poked each other with pens.

The unanswered question at the end was whether or not Dexter was able to shed his dark passenger. With the possibility of a new life with Hanna and Harrison, he didn't need his dark passenger any longer. But keeping himself in exile, is he able to maintain the same?

Finally, lol at Dexter finale mirroring Monty Python:

I think the answer is clearly no. I think they wanted to allude that Dexter was back to square one. Meaning he no longer had a wife and kid (or Deb for that matter), and he was able to kill freely again, without the consequences of destroying the people around him...

Come on, you already know I didn't watch em if you'd think.

I saw this last episode and it was the most ridiculous bullshit I've seen. Assuming the rest of the last few seasons went like that, and how I posted about the show before, you think I would have kept my mouth shut this whole time?

This once great show went downhill and ended on a complete whimper. Sad but expected.

pretty bad season - I found myself not being motivated to watch, and only did so out of some sense of duty and mild curiousity.

even though the last episode had its moments, shit like this bugs me:

*when Deb and Dex set the trap for Saxon, why the FUCK would Deb be wearing high heels?

*when Saxon steals that car in the parking lot, nobody notices him taking out that dude?

*Dex stealing Deb's body in plain sight? GIMME A FUCKING BREAK.

The last scene was beautifully filmed though.

I am nearly (not entirely, but almost) 100% convinced that the human race is utterly incapable of knowing how to end a story "the right way". We just aren't any good at it.

We're terrific at hooks to get you interested in listening to the story and are experts in doling out information to keep your attention to the story, but we are woefully useless when it comes to wrapping everything up. It's almost as if every writer in the universe got bored working their way up to the ending or - worse yet - didn't want to put in the effort to reward the audience for their time invested in the story.

"But it was all just a dream..."

Out of the countless billions of stories that have been told thoughout human history, probably only about 4 of them had a satisfying ending.

Sad fact, but true...for the most part.

Ah....crap...I stopped watching The Shield after season 5...for no other reason than I forgot to go back and continue watching. :owned:

I'll have to grab them all now and see if it did indeed have a good ending. Cheers for the reminder.

OR, we are incapable of enjoying endings. We are suckers for hooks and the unknown... no matter the answer, anticipation of it is always sweeter.

That, or *gasp* we're not all the same. Some people liked the Dexter ending, others didn't. It's the same with every other story...
