This is one of the biggest issues I have with the series, as a whole. They make Dexter (and sometimes other characters) pull of this Sherlock Holmes super-sleuth shit and I just don't buy it. Sometimes, they pad the ridiculous leaps and feats Dexter accomplishes with dialogue where characters admit that something seems crazy, but, oh well, that's life, and it seems slightly more believable that way.
By the way, re: ending
SPOILERS OBVS HOMIES
I have to admit, I was a little taken by surprise. I have wondered how this series will end for many years. My candidates were the same as almost everyone else's, probably: He gets caught and/or executed. He dies in some way not related to judicial retribution (suicide or at the hand of his final foe). Or, he gets away with everything and we get to leave the series on that deliciously deviant note that attracted most of us in the first place. Wrong on all counts. He fakes his death, abandons his family, and starts a new life in a new place. I have to admit, I didn't see that coming, and in that way, I guess I sort of respect the writers for doing it. I look forward to reading staff interviews in the future to get a better handle on what exactly happened and why they wrote it that way.
Good show. Not sure if it's a great show, though. I think the very last episode is one of the only times in the entire series I really felt anything approximating a powerful emotional reaction.
