Ok, pop photo decided on this one. It will be published in the July issue. They already have enough content for the next three months!

I think I'm gonna fix the skies up a little. Merging 5 photos does make it look a bit funky.

it's not always the quality of the picture--sometimes the story behind eclipses it, right?

Sort of, but if I don't know the story ahead of time, it's just another picture if it doesn't do an effective job of communicating it.

Think of it this way... You can take a picture of something boring, or take a boring picture.

I should add that you can take a great picture with a crappy P&S if you know how to work the light and the composition... Those two elements will get you farther than a story any day

I agree with Captain Mazda, That is an incredible photo. I would make a whole wall tapestry with it.
Great man!.
BTW. I would like know...If you sell them a picture, do you also have to give them the negative, if it's a 35MM, and is it their own as a copyright and you have no right to publish or sell it anymore?

wow Dave, I know what you were saying about the 1DS a few weeks ago now.

A friend of my Dad's showed me around his studio today (which I'm free to use if I feel like it), along with his £15k digital hassleblad >:E.

He lent me some of his equipment to try out for the day. I have:

Canon 1Ds Mark II
Canon 16-35mm F2.8L
Canon 70-200mm F2.8L IS
Canon 580EX Speedlite

Image

I'm in love. It makes the 20D seem like a toy and extremely light in comparison.

Thanks for the compliments :icon31:

Now that I think about it I had a polarizer lens that would have helped richen those a little :icon32: ...on the last photo we were driving to Squaw Valley and on the way we were stopping every few minutes to snap photos, since we were already late I was actually running from spot to spot to snap shots ...:olo:

as for the sun I just close my eyes and use a really fast shutter speed.

lol.. it's a holga dude.. you can't really compare it to anything

I am wondering what kind of film he's using, though. The contrast seems a little low. I don't think it was properly sRGB tagged in photoshop before he saved it because it has a lot more color in it in PS than it does in my browser.

yeah, that and the uh...back fell of 2 frames after that picture of the gorilla statue :(

The film is Fuji Pro 400H.

I thought the bridge one turned out okay, though

I'll need to do some research on the sRGB stuff and photoshopping in general. Those are pretty much straight from the scans. I did adjust brightness/contrast in the gorilla one because it was even worse.

I plan on touching up a lot of the Holga pictures I've taken once I have even the slightest clue of what I'm doing.

What you need to do is manually convert to sRGB and attach the ICC profile to the photo when you export it from Photoshop. Do not use Save For Web because it doesn't work very well. Just use normal "Save As".

If you have CS2 or 3, you go to Edit > Convert to Profile... > Select sRGB IEC... in the Destination Space box and click OK. If you scan 16 bit, you have to go to Image > Mode > 8 bits/channel. Then go to File > Save As and save it as a jpeg. Make sure the box that says attach profile or whatever is checked. I always use 9 quality with baseline optimized.

Here's what it looks like after I converted it from Adobe 98 to sRGB.

Here's the original as a comparison

Alright, probably my last decent photo from Korea before I head on vacation to the Thai islands for 12 days then back to Canada.

Shot in tungsten WB for the distorted colour effect.
