Dunno - just love dipping heavy - plus doing so really adds to my chest development even with these small reps. Anyway, I do the higher rep stuff at the beginning of each periodization cycle. I like to incrementally add weight on a relatively regular basis even if my rep count goes down. Kinda like working up to a 1RM over a period of a few months.

Take Rippetoe's technique advice with a grain of salt. There are a lot of other more established people who you should listen to.
So far the one issue I have with his deadlift explanation is that he says not to drop the hips during the set up, but this is clearly impossible not to. Brought it up on his forum and he said he'd maybe clarify the issue in a future edition.

ugh, just watched it. Rubbed me the wrong way. Especially didn't like the way he ends the deadlift by pulling backwards. Doesn't look healthy at all and doesn't accomplish anything.
btw here's an excellent analysis of some interesting aspects of the deadlift.

That's because he's used to pulling a lot more weight, you can't go that far back if you are pulling any decent weight but that's the general idea.
P.S. DYEL?

what's the bloody point of going that far back? The purpose of any barbell exercise is to lift a weight against gravity, in a vertical fashion. Any deviation from that path is wasted energy, and compromises the balance of the system.
Hyperextending your lumbar at the end of a deadlift seems fucking stupid and dangerous.
and yes, I do lift - why do you ask?

that's because it IS stupid and dangerous. everyone does this at the gym i go to (air force base gym).... so god damn annoying and pointless, just asking for over extension injuries.

I don't really understand it for that video either. You aren't supposed to hyperextend, you also aren't supposed to stumble backwards.
It's discussed a lot in the comments section but they assume it's just because he's used to pulling with much heavier weight.

to be fair, everyone has days where they just feel off balance... but when lifters use lighter weight as an excuse for lack of proper positioning, all it means is they are compensating for a lack of flexibility or technique.
watch each snatch by ilin, the only differences between loads is how deep he has to descend to catch the weight. nothing else in the technique changes, which is a clear sign of true strength, flexibility, and technique. the lift of 120kg and the lift of 192.5kg are virtually identicle.

Improving Overhead squat strength - how? I am shite at them, despite being able to squat reasonable weight normally, I really struggle with anything about 50kg. I wobble and I struggle with keeping my shoulders stable. Core strength issue? Would it be helpful if I got a video for you lovely people analyse?
