Yeah they did play like shite. Played about the same as they did against the US which was not great. Only difference was that instead of cinderella with gloves on, they had a goalkeeper that was awake.

Fucking no, just no. after the first 25 mins we starting to move much better, all we needed was to take someone on. once milner made a few good passes the confidence grew and we started playing the ball past instead of passing. it just needed someone to make a good play that paid off.

They were still causing problems though, kind of reminiscent of the US game but the players did give a much better, professional performance, getting the ball down with simple pass and move, I quite liked the way they played. still not liking the player selection and formation though, but putting Defoe on was a step in the right direction

Only saw the highlights of both matches but from that i concur

Now if only they would break the curse of their goals not counting...

passing's fine, they just needed to take people on and generate some plays. after that we started looking like a team again.
next game we'll go out with the right attitude.

frankly, england are going to have to raise their game 1000% to stand a chance of getting anything out of this tournament. they raised it about 50% for the slovenia game, despite what moobio capello up here thinks

agreed. however I still think we've turned a corner, we just need Rooney to fucking sort his head out.
PS, Terry was on form tonight, he played very well in 2nd half.

Ever the pessimist, I don't see england getting further than sunday. I hope I'm wrong but they've been substandard for 3 games now with only 2 goals.

quite. england
can win, but probably won't
i read somewhere that germany haven't fallen at the last 16 since 1938 or something like that. also, someone made the telling point that if england could have hand-picked their group before the WC they would have chosen a group not unlike the one they actually got. they performed better four years ago in the group of death

With how rare goals are in soccer, and after seeing how the US almost went home with three ties when they actually finished with 2 wins and 1 tie, I can't believe they haven't adopted some sort of instant replay policy for calls that could negate goals. Obviously the refs miss a ton of calls, and from the soccer I've watched this world cup, it seems to be one of the worst officiated (and most difficult to officiate) sports I've ever watched. I wouldn't want replays for every yellow card or anything, and bad officiating is just part of the game in many sport, but one goal in soccer means a lot more than one 3 pointer in basketball.
Soccer fans - has the instant replay issue come up that often in serious discussions about the sport and its future?

Yes it has and Sepp Blatter (fat wanker) and Michel Platini (French wanker) think it will take the flow out of the game.
Rubbish if you ask me; they are just old and retarded and can't see how technology could have a positive impact on the sport.

I think they should use it but sparingly (like hawk-eye in tennis). Bad calls can seriously mess up a game. Stuff like the hands ball that got the French in this tournament to begin with, the double hands by Fabiano and last night a hands ball by Australia in the 16m which should have gotten Serbia a penalty that could've gotten them into the next round.
The ref could ask the 4th official to review a decision. It wouldn't take more then 10 seconds. I mean, even directors for the TV broadcast are fast in seeking and setting up replays and everything, so why not.
