Geoff's main point is that posting on this forum makes him painfully aware of how unsuccessful he is. He's also ashamed of himself. Case in point: he refers to himself as being "retired", because he doesn't have the self esteem to just say "I sacrificed my career prospects in order to raise my children". It's a noble thing to do. Geoff doesn't have enough confidence to take ownership of the fact that he's a father, and be proud of that.

People have grown up on this board, whereas Geoff has been a stay-at-home-parent from day 1 and remains so.

Other people's success is a poignant reminder that everyone else is evolving and growing. Hence why he'll type up a fake accounts balance in order to convince himself that he's not the only one stagnating in every single area of his life.

Ultimately, Geoff lacks confidence. It's why he displays mock contempt at his college course and acts like it's a breeze. The truth is that he's studying his balls off and doesn't want to admit that he's working hard to change something he's not happy with.
