ok that workout wasn't sooooo bad, but my grip was shot on the last sets of hang snatches and cleans. holy crap

probably not registering for the open this year, but who knows i might do it and put up workout vids for the hell of it, even though I know I won't do well at all. mainly i don't want those wods to interfere with my lifting.

yes, strictly olympic lifting. It's my favorite! I've been an all-around athlete my whole life, now it's time to bang out some big numbers. I think I'll register and do the wods for fun, might as well :)

I'm liking this higher volume style training:

working sets:

low bar back squats: 195 (3x5)
flat db presses: 60 (5x7)
Pendlay Rows: 160 (5x5)
dips: bodyweight x 15

I'm going to admit freely here that i only go to the gym maybe twice a week to not become a fat cunt and know little about what i'm doing. It feels good and i get some slight results and that's all i want from it, really. Hell, i don't even know what all this stuff is, with the flat db presses and the pendlay rows. Having said all that, 3x5 and 5x7 and 5x5 seem like very low numbers to me... am i being an idiot or is Jules?

Yup, on average. Sometimes even once a week!

Anyway, i do more reps and more sets at a lower weight... is it really better to do less with more or what's the deal here?

Some exercises, like deadlifts, aren't suitable for high rep sets. In general, it's good to do have both strength (lower reps at higher weight) and hypertrophy (higher reps at lower weight) training in your program.

Indeed Feedback

Did my 3rd session of bench press yesterday; I'm up to 125lbs on the bench now for 5x5 reps which is going in the right direction

In other news my knee is getting better so I'm getting back to heavy squats again; 5-5-3-3-1-1. I'm doing 220lbs on the one and my knee is coping so I'm going to attempt 240lbs soon...

I've never benched and that is free weight rather than a machine.

I noticed you didn't mention my squats?

Hey Geoff, it is a weakness of mine that I have highlighted and I am addressing.

How do you plan on addressing your life?
