***SPOILERS AHOY, CAP'N!***

Quite liked XM-1 and XM-2.
Knew Bryan Singer wasn't directing this time round though, so lowered my expectations.

Obviously Bratt Ratner is an inferior acting director, making for rather poor line delivery, and consequential laughable 'dramatic scenes':
Like Halle Barry's eulogy for Xavier, or Wolverine 'euthanizing' Jean, or Magneto gasping "what have I done?" for that matter.
WTF? Seemed at that time that he exactly got what he set out to do.

But the effects were top notch.
Things that stick in my mind are obviously the 'bridge scene' and more subtle things, like using CGI to rejuvenate Ian McKellen's wrinkly old face in a '20 years ago' falsh back.

Frasier as Beast was spot on too.

8/10

Firewall - 5/10

a strictly average thriller, marking paul bettany's arrival on the mainstream hollywood scene as - you guessed it - the stereotypical brit bad guy

harrison ford hasn't made a decent movie in years

Hostel

it was bad, interesting twist on the whole "serial killer" stuff, but the movie has so many errors and it feels like a bunch of amateurs shot it.

It had some interesting ideas and some artistic/innovative direction (similar to many effects seen in C.R.A.Z.Y.), but it falls apart with a "climax" that is an expression of typical Japanese fetishism -- the overly elaborate, way-too-lengthy plotting of a man's murder. A mixed bag, really. I've never seen anything else quite like it, so I don't have much of a frame of reference. It was interesting enough, but it didn't spark in me any particular desire to see the previous two films by the same director (which comprise, along with this one, a thematic trilogy -- the theme being revenge, of course).
?? that's a korean movie, not japanese.
Anyway, if you want to see a good movie in that vein, look at the director's earlier work "Old Boy", which is his first and last "revenge done right" movie. "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" was his first attempt, and was just horrible to watch in that the whole thing is just an non-stop tragety that will make you feel awful, with the only theme being that revenge and violence only cause more of the same. Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is probably the least fucked-up movie he's done, but also like it the least. So definately watch Old Boy, but skip Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. (Unless you like ruthless torture scenes and little children being killed, and then fucked while dead by the coroner. Wooo)

Was a great movie, but it doesn't get 9.5/10 because closer to the end it gets really obscure and requires a lot of thinking, which alienates 90% of the viewers. The ending could have been left a bit less open-ended.
whoa whoa what, fuck that, there's absolutely no way you could know what is going on in that movie. You're either some kind of fucking genius, or you're full of shit. FULL OF SHIT

Slevin. : ] It was cool.

9/10 Pretty confusing story, and it's really twisted and gory. You wouldn't be able to tell from the previews, though.

I liked all of the characters, but some of the speech seemed too scripted. *shrugs*

Wait, you seriously thought that movie had a confusing story and that it was gory? Are you 9?

Saw Cars with my daughter this weekend. 9/10. Fantastic voice talent, Pixar's bar-raising animation, an engrossing, if cute and predictable movie.

Best part? Michael Freakin' Schumacher's voice cameo, baby!

Also saw Fight Club again, 8/10. Though this was the 4th or 5th time I'd seen it, I think I enjoyed it more due to the fact that I was REALLY paying attention to it. In particular I was looking for clues as to Tyler's real identity, and looking for pieces of the film that really address the issue of modern masculinity.

The Da Vinci Code - 7/10

If I hadn't read the book, I think the movie would be quiet enjoyable. Ian McKellen was awesome.

i think this one went straight to dvd or something. don't recall it being in the theater and it's a little old (1999).

pretty well done and it's at least not some lame rehash from yesteryear

Slither

5/10

I think this movie could have been a lot better if they had had more money. They had to put in too much dialogue because they couldn't afford more slime, intestines and other gross special effects.

Nathan Fillion was great as usual, but didn't have much to work with. This is a classic "something gross happens, then funny one-liner follows" movie, but there weren't enough gross things happening.

And sometimes it felt like they didn't know if they really wanted to take the funny route. Could be that it was originally a serious movie that was just unintentionally funny and they turned it around at the last minute.
