I've had this happen to me once as well. Straight to the Desktop in Full Bright with no errors.

AMD Athlon64 3200+
AGP Radeon X800XL (5.10 drivers at time of crash, now running 5.10a)
1 gig Corsair XMS memory
Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1
XPSP2

I had the gamma thing happen to me when I exited quake4. But I've never had it quit on me yet.

ATI 9800 Pro with 5.10a

Also my screenshots are all messed up, they don't use the brightness/gamma I setup in game. I have to photoshop them to the same level. :icon23: I've used screenshot & screenshotJPEG. :(

I've had this happen just a few times, in SP and in MP. It's fairly rare though, so I haven't given it too much thought.

I'll add a log file to my config in case it happens again.

I found the gammafix odium posted worked for me, whereas none of the other tricks did. I tried the color correction, opening and closing Q4, and opening and closing Q3, but couldn't get it to revert to normal color until I ran that.

This was on the same server that kicked me out 3 times in a row at the start of a second match.
I posted this a few spots back, this worked for me, I am not having any trouble with it anymore. Not sure if anyone saw it.

Can you check out your Windows event logs? Every time it crashes it adds the folowing lines to my event log

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: 7.

Search this forum for gamma. Odium posted a file called gammafix.exe that will fix this problem. It's the only thing that worked for me.

To fix the gamma on ATi cards, just go into your drivers and set the gamma to default, hit apply and it's back to normal.

I have had this happen about 8 times now, both in SP and MP. I just opened the port that Icon of Sin posted, so we'll see if that helps.

Well, I got the crash with the port opened. So that's not it.

Please, :icon15: & Raven, fix this. rgoer, let them know lots of people have this issue... :(

Solution

c:\windows\system32\OpenAL32.dll <-copy this file and rename it to OpenAL32.d_l, then drop it in same directory.

Posted: Fri Oct 28, 2005 5:37 am
by Psyche911
Leaving you with both .dll and .d_l in the folder, or just .d_l?

Has anyone tried to update this?
http://developer.creative.com/articles/ ... =38&aid=46

I have feeling that might help, so some brave could try.

NOTICE: I'm not responsible if you mess something, do with your own risc.

Status update:
I tried this myself... didn't broke anything nor help to this issue, so no need to install that.

I don't have a Creative Labs card, nor an OpenAL card for that matter. OpenAL is turned off and I've sttil gotten this problem.
