Based on spooks latest post I'm getting more ideas about how things need to self regulate. In other words, we would collect stats for each gametype and map and calculate probabilities for say 30 types of events independently for each map and gametype. So for instance a cap on map A might be more probable than a cap on map B, so based on it's probability for that map the points awarded would automatically be lowered. All that would be required is to store and calculate the probabilities separately for each map.
Anyway I'm glad to hear you guys are working on this. I remember how much fun I had running a 1v1 DM17 Q3 server years ago with web stats. At one point I had over 800 players ranked on it, and it was loads of fun. ( I was #2 on the list btw )
It is a very good idea to have the probabilities be decided based on the already collected information.
I think I have a decent suggestion for a workaround for alot of this stuff. What if it was part of the mod that players were able to specify which matches were official matches and which ones weren't? Then you would just redord the data for the official matches. These matches would have to contain even teams as well, with the same amount of players within a specific rating category. This would cut down how much the system is taken advantage of as well, and anyone that took advantage of it would be more easily spotted. Also, that is alot less random data. I think that since this is a pro mod, it should encourage competative clan based play in this way, and I think this feature would do just that. This would cut down on the random noise and players just messing around sooo much. What do you guys think?
I think also that all spree's and combo kills, and pretty much anything you get an award for in the game already should be recorded.
An interesting idea Lenard, but how would one regulate which matches are reported as official or not? Instead I would suggest this:
Create two main stats sites, one for pub games and one for leagues/tournaments. The leagues would need to get a passkey something that would be set on the server in the cfg and it would be setup to report to a stats server that is different from the pub server.
However I think just having one overall ranking system is really the goal of this effort, and if done right (not like the UT stats where other players skill is not factored in) then I think it would serve its purpose quite nicely.
