The tail seems about the same shape as most of the white shark pics i just (nerdily) googled...

That photo is misleading, too. The shark isn't much larger than the kayak. Granted, that would still enough to freak me out.
Great white attacks are rare, though. It's probably just curious... or it wants to mate.

It could be a great white (hard to tell from the pic angle), but I don't think it is. It's a little darker than they usually are, has a thinner body, and the snout is too pointed; great whites have wide blunt noses.
But who cares, it'd still scare the shit out of me.
If I was in a more stable craft, I'd try hanging over the edge and shitting in the water. You don't want to piss though, as that attracts them just like blood sometimes.
It does kinda look like it's either been scanned in or PS'd though - look at the horizontal lines near the bottom.
