As you go along you build up "star power", when this fills up you have to bring the guitar up to a 90 degree angle (like you're rocking a guitar solo). The controller is quite sohpisticated despite how it looks. It detects hammer-ons and pull-offs, which become key in the face-melting songs.
The game has a great soundtrack, very eclectic. It has some punk, metal, pop, alternative, etc. In fact, beyond the "famous" songs you can unlock a bunch of indy songs that bands put there names in to get in the game. I just discovered that The Slip (a fucking ace band I've seen a bunch of times) has a song on it.
I fucking love this game.
yeah and the game has FREEZEPOP!!!!!!!!! i just about shit myself when i saw that :D

also as far as gameplay, you can hold a fret button all day long... it only activates when you hit the strum bar (unless it's a hammer or pulloff)

I made a video a few months ago... I'll post it as soon as it's uploaded.
what, this game has freezepop too? :olo: what track?

Picked it up. Pretty damn fun stuff, but man that shit gets difficult once you are on the higher difficulties.

Still probably as much fun as I can remember having on the PS2.

Here's how I've played/improved.
I played through all of easy and kicked its ass. I then moved on to medium and played through medium twice, maybe three times. Now I'm on to hard and not having too hard a time with it.
My suggestion is to not waste a lot of time with easy, you need to learn to use your pinky right away. Also, when you move on to hard and have to start using the orange button I recommend switching your hand position down, so that your index finger rests on red instead of green. It's far easier to make the reach to green with your index then it is to make the stretch to orange with your pinky.

Also, having played guitar is certainly a help. Not really with technique but with finget control.

Yea, I'm working through medium right now. I'm at the last set on medium, at the big arena. I'm doing the repetition thing - playing songs again and again until I can do the main parts real quick.
