Homebrew for PSP sounds interesting yes, but unfortunately Sony is doing everything it can to stop people from running homebew software on their PSP's.

As for DS homebrew... check out this puppy:

Its not really worth it. I mean like tnf said, the best game for it atm is dark mirror and to play that you need 2.6, which means you have to pick. Play the latest games, or play games from 10 years ago with poor frame rates and poor controls (thanks to sony nto knowing how to do a proper D-Pad design that is stupidly hard to do diagonal movement).

In other words, do you want to spend twice as much as you should on a portable system to play one or two good games?

Do you want to pay twice as much as you should to play old games with bad controls and poor frame rates?

Or do you want to pay a fair ammount for a decent console which si very, very fun and has loads of decent games for it?

The PSP has a lot going for it. Its got a good display, play films and music, and has nice-ish games. But for the most part, the targets are never hit. The movie player sucks because UMD is dead. The MP3 player is fine but the size of the PSP makes it retarded. The games have nice graphics but often poor frame rate and control, theres only a few out there that are any good. And the battery life makes it hardly "portable" when you need to sit next to a power outlet just to play the thing.

From my point of view, go with the DS. Save yourself a load of money and get more games. PSP is for bling kiddies who want to look good, DS is about gameplay and oldschool fun.

Sold. Thank you.

From all the POV's in this thread the gameplay seems to be the most compelling. I cant find anything on the psp that i cant do better on my laptop or just as well on my vPod. So it comes down to gaming and since psp seems to only have a few games, while the DS will let me play all the games i grew up on on nintendo so i think its just a better choice for me personaly.

Infact this inquiry has led me to the conclusion that the Wii is going to be my next console purchase too. Though i might get a 360 too.

Anyway, thnx all. DS it is.

Metroid Hunters has been voted the best online/offline handheld game EVER. Add to that Zelda Phantom Hourglass and New Super Mario Bros. and tbh, you cant go wrong.

I got a PSP but I really like racing games and wanted to get the PSP version of Grand Turismo... Honestly, I'm undecided, even though I own a PSP... I might get a DS too, I don't like the touchpad bullshit but I do like Metroid. Other than that, PSP is the way to go cause it just looks so damn fucking good.

Sure, if you've gotta choose between car that does 0-60 in 4 seconds flat and you have to choose between a porsche and a toyota corrola the awnser suddenly becomes non existant.

Shame the porsche has no fuel.

Yeah, but when that porsche eats up all the fuel in an hour, forcing you to never actually be able to take it out of the garage, the question becomes none existent.

When that porsche is fast, but really, really poor at driving, the question becomes none existent.

When that porsche breaks down and never works again if you crash it ever so slightly, the question becomes none existent.

Lets face it, get the old handheld check list out:

(*) Does product provide fun that can be had in any time frame, be it 1min or 1 hour?

(*) Does product have enough battery life to warrent actually taking it out of the house, playing with friends etc?

(*) Is product able to withstand many many bumpos and drops, like for example, the average every day use of a handheld?

(*) Is product fast at loading, so that you can actually turn the game on and withen seconds be playing?

Lets face it, PSP fails at all above points. Its a "console" in your pocket which is exactly what a handheld shouldn't be. I dont know about you, but if i want to play a hard platformer like Prince Of Persia that needs great reflexes, ill play it on xbox. What hand helds are for, is for quick gaming sessions of FUN. Its not about buying Need For Speed AGAIN on PSP only to have it handle like a retard in a shopping trolly.

And above all else, its about having a battery life that lets you use it on planes, trains and in cars. With the PSP battery life, you cant take it on holiday. You cant take it on long trips. Isn't that the whole point of a handheld?

And dont give me that buy an adapter bollocks, thats 100% NOT the point. Why should i pay even MORE money for a PSOne in my pocket with sub-par games and an awful battery life :olo:

Your entitled to your opinion, as am i. But you say your waiting for Gran Turismo Pocket, and TBH with you, I can only dream of how bad it will be. I remember all the "shots" of it that were 100% REAL, but were GT4 shots in a resolution not even possible on a PS2 :olo: Go Sony hype machine!
