Might as well add Tomb Raider 1-5 and all the Need For Speed games up to Porsche. Now TR: Legend and Most Wanted discourage me from playing them :ninja:

Karate champ was excellent. Golden Axe was another one that I spent a fortune on in the arcades growing up.

Hmm. Not technically classic, but here are some games I dumped countless hours into:

Monkey Island, Space Quest, Police Quest, Larry, etc
Colonization
Master of Magic
Master of Orion 2
Deus Ex
DukeNukem3D
Warcraft 2
Q3A
Strike Commander (great atmosphere, loved being a jetfighter mercenary)
Privateer (best game atmo ever, Freelancer was pretty good as well. I wish they made a sequel.)
Baldur's Gate 2 (best RPG ever. I'm playing Kotor atm, and I keep imagining how good it could've been had they used the Infinity Engine)

Overall I can say that the most important thing for me in a game is atmosphere. Sadly, I seem to belong to a minority.

Man, the Strike Commander manual had an ad for radar-guided missiles by Adnan Kashoggi on it's back.

They don't do things like this anymore. :tear:

the quality games do
oblivion's collectors has that compendium, halo2 collectors has the entire manual in Covenant ("primitive human weaponry" :D ), and the GTA series have tourguides in their manuals.
to name a few.

but the best thing to enhance atmosphere (IMO) is musical score. they used to make some great music back in the day :tear: *sniph*

There aren't many games that have held my attention, I would have to say the early Final Fantasy games and possibly games like Ayerton Senna's Super Monaco Grand Prix. :)

But especially oblivion is a game that has almost NO atmosphere whatsoever.

"Welcome to generic fantasy world! Here you will meet generic fantasy characters!"

I'm sorry, I don't want to start a discussion about oblivion here. It's just a particularly good example of what's wrong with today's games in MY opinion.

I had one of those mini table top arcade donkey kongs that I use to play all the time.
There was one time when I played, I rolled the score 5 times.

Quake 2/3 (Never really played Q1)
Motocross Madness 2
Gran Turismo 1
Defender
Need For Speed 1, 2 & 3.
Minor 2049er
Jumpman Junior
Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3 & 4.
and others I can't remember.
