I know trillian does the job - is that recommended?

I use Trillian simply to consolidate all my contacts. If I were using one or two clients I wouldn't bother with the memory hog.
When the hell do they plan to update it again? There for a while there was a steady stream of major revisions but now it just feels dead.

Maybe they can bring out a revision that loads quickly, I also noticed how much of a hog it's become since going from 2 to 3. I went to Miranda but found it too damn ugly for my fickle tastes.

GAIM is FREE
GAIM is efficient
GAIM is stripped down
GAIM is compatible with your MSN list
GAIM is compatible with your Yahoo list
GAIM is compatible with your ICQ list
GAIM is compatible with your AIM list
GAIM is compatible with IRC
When it comes to stripped down and efficient GAIM is greater than all.

Miranda is awesome. I love the minimalistic skin and the great icons. Plus it only eats like 3mb when in use.

Right, one stupid thing I can't figure out for some reason. I can't get my username and avatar displayed at the top of the contact list... yeah I should know but I don't.
Any ideas?
Edit:

I mean the status-y thing at the top, is that a plugin of sorts?

Bah, I figured it out in the end.
Just to show my avatar, username ands status on the top of the contact list you need 2 fucking plugins.
What a fucking potch for such stadard functionality.

I find giving handwritten notes to my friends and colleagues is a pretty solid alternative to MSN. I had some connection issues at first, but once i solved those i found the whole thing to be very stable.
Features:
- video conferencing capped at a solid 70fps
- virtually unlimited data storage
- very functional spamfilter
- easy to use security settings
- sending larger files such as photo's is no problem at all!

Trillian has the occasional issue, and they do seem to always be with MSN, but I have always used Trillian and remain satisfied. I have used GAIM on Fedora and am not a huge fan of it.
