yeah but that way I keep the train rollin' and I don't wanna spend too much money anymore on a 4-year old computer.

the pc first had a SCI (4mb) card in it, and my mom her collegues' son last year bought the GeForce to be able to play more games. but since it didn't work I guess he got it out of it again and put the 4mb in it and just gave me the GeForce in it's original box (actually just the plastic of it) along with the pc and it's original video card (the SCI, as I said).

I can use the GF for desktop use and to watch some movies and that works just fine, but the games don't wanna work.

$40 bucks to play quake3 .. worth it.

Well the fan of the GF is working, I just tested. And I downloaded a tool to test hardware and motherboard & CPU temperature etc. (Lavalys EVEREST Home Edition) and everything was approx. 30°C (except CPU -> 40°C).

But now I wonder, could it be that this pc is just too old for the GeForce FX 5500? Since it is a relatively new videocard...

it's possible that you need a bios update but take some advice that was found here first.

video card?
drivers?

I get runtime errors in quake 2 then it started on quake 3 and now it is doing it to enemy terrorty I think its some thing my pc doesnt like about quake engine. I play BF2 with no problems and farcry so I dont no what it is. But my errors just say RUNTIME ERROR nothing else thats it
