Well I'm strictly talking about people that are first time offenders obviously. Maybe facing a judge is indeed something the guy needs, but don't push him into the courtroom facing the theoretical possibility of 10 years in jail.
I also find it interesting to see how some people refer to this incident as "drugging others" while other people refer to it as "a prank gone wrong". There's quite a different mental approach to drugging others and pranking others.

I know alot of highschoolers who really don't get the ramifications
of their actions, regardless of whether its playing nasty
pranks or even stealing. The world is their playpen and they
just keep doing it.
Just look at "repeat offenders" - these guys

Nobody's defending him. Personally, I'm just saying the charges are overkill.
But, as tnf said, it sounds like that was the only appropriate statute under the circumstances.
Maybe there should be a separate legal statute for pranks gone wrong, with sentencing dependent on the severity of the outcome - and some kind of procedure to scare the hell out of the kid and let him know that irresponsible acts toward others can be serious business.

So every time there really is a prank gone wrong, we should assume the worst and that the kid was intentionally trying to harm people, and lock him up?

by Tsakali_
that would be pretty reasonable for some pricks out there, but not for this one, and definately not for such a long term

you cant read comprehend for reals ey?
a prank is harmless, like a squirting lapel flower.
when someone deliberatly prepares a drug wayyy over recomended doses and hides it in food and gives it to unsuspecting trusting people-thats not a prank, its a fucking crime.

You've never heard of people putting laxatives in people's food as a prank?
There are dosages on the bottle, but those dosages don't translate to making a tub full of brownies. Therefore, using too high a dosage could have completely been accidental.

i give you a tip.
stoopid idiots that that do this shit and think this is a "funny prank" need to be punished for thier crimes.
that way other stooppid lammas that think its funny will think twice and maybe not do the crime when they have to pay a price .
you guys know plaineds opinion dint make that law ey
