rap is already dead. It died a couple of years ago. Sure, they're still raking in money but the quality is gone. There's still some underground groups, though. What killed it is the same thing that killed Rock and Roll, corporations. It was safe as long as it was too raunchy for the mainstream, but once it got dragged in, it was over.

rap is more popular than ever. hip hop culture is coming more and more into the mainstream (and being more involved with sports as well). YG, sysop, duff and whoever else is right.

anyway, instead of making a silly comment that its been going downhill, you should have just asked whats going to be the next big genre of music.

rap won't be dropping out of the pop scene any time soon - nothing ever will.

as pop becomes more and more homogenic, any movement unlucky enough to fall into its sights will inevitably become a part of it - like something out of the blob or invasion of the body snatchers or dawn of the dead. it doesn't matter if children are idolising thugs and whores, as long as they fork over the cash for the dvds.

there is no level of suffering too great for pop record execs to be put through. i hope one day they drag some psychotic priapistic rapist into a meeting because he has a 'fresh approach', and he violently and repeatedly sodomises the lot of them until their corpses go brittle.
