just keep moving from left to right, sit close to the screen apart from that i don't know. my mate have over 4 mil, you should see the screen then.

everytime i play i'll get over 6-700'000 after a few games.

Do you do anything specific with the black hole things to get maximum points out of them when you kill them or just shoot them as soon as they show up?

Once things start to get busy you should generally move in a circular path around the edge of the playfield (I favour anticlockwise). Stay about an inch or so from the edge though as circular spawns will often catch you (and the circle worm spawn will kill you instantly if you're against the edge of the screen when they happen). Learn techniques for handling each type of spawn that occurs. Once you get a decent multiplier going don't lose it, use bombs to stay alive and keep it going as your score will rack up very rapidly with an 8+ multiplier and earn you lives + bombs at a decent rate.
As for black holes I tend to kill them quick as the mini holes they emit when they explode are very quick moving, though if you have a mass of enemies after you the 'four corner black hole spawn' is useful for getting rid of a few (travel anticlockwise from corner to corner hitting each black hole and letting the enemies get sucked in, hole explodes, move to next corner and repeat....)

My top is a little over 3 million, 200/200 achievements. :icon25:

I have Mutant Storm HD (pretty decent), Doom.... err and some other stuff I can't remember. The demo of Assault Heroes was pretty cool, will probably get that with the points left over from Shivering Isles

Zuma is retardedly addictive.
Geometry Wars probably is another must have.
Beyond that I have MK3, SF2, Contra, TMNT, Paperboy, Bejeweled, Hexic, Bacgammon. And I'm sure there's a few I'm missing.
