Not sure, but I would think so going from 32 to 64 bit. I can give you more info when mine comes in sometime next week.
Maybe Toshiba would have the driver set on their site?

You'll probably want to do a clean install anyway, because the laptop will come preinstalled with all kinds of junk that you wont need slowing you down.
You can do a clean install of the upgrade disc too, I saw the instructions somewhere. If you end up getting both 32bit and 64bit like scourge said, I would first install 64bit quickly and see if you get any major pains with the drivers (I think the majority of your hardware will be found except for one or two maybe). Then you can see if you can find whatever is missing from device manager. If that dosen't work out you can go the 32bit route.

Well I don't know if Toshiba ships a recovery CD with the laptop or not, I hope they do. While a clean installation is nice and would run better, I don't want to lose any functionality. I have an old laptop that has a clean install of XP and I can't tell the touchpad to disable tap to click. The Toshiba also has the fingerprint scanner and other drivers I am sure. While I'm sure Toshiba has downloadable drivers, how many and how comprensive is the question.

Ouch the tosh site kinda sucks. Way too many models and it dosen't seem you can customize them (or can you). So it's like hunting for the one you like and not getting something with a pos intel intergrated card.

There are a few customizable models, the Tecra A7, Satillite A200 and P200. I am most heavily looking at the P200

Just got my disc in and apparently you have to do a clean install. I figured you would considering all the drivers and the like would be for 32 bit.

Didn't have much luck with the Easy Transfer program to migrate all my settings to the new install. Burned them on a DVD-RW and the new install says it's blank.
Anyway, other than that it was pretty smooth.

I might do that, don't know yet.
One question I have, although this might change when the new Centrino comes out with DDR2 800 RAM, but I checked Crucial and the RAM compatible with the P200 has a CAS latency of 5, I think that is standard for DDR2, but just to make sure does anyone konw if the P200 comes with something different?

I have the same specs except I'm running 2gb and got a geforce7400go. Wish I'd gone for a bigger drive though (got 80gb). I have a 5400rpm drive too and I'd have to say that it does make a difference, the computer and winxp is running really smooth but loading some apps isn't as fast as it would be on a desktop with a faster drive. I didn't wanna pay a premium for 7200rpm, it's noticeable but I can live with it.

Well Santa Rosa just rolled out, 800 MHz FSB laptops are everywhere on the web now. However, Toshiba hasn't made their P200 customizable with a Santa Rosa platform. I truly hope they do, as I really like the options of the P200, 17" screen, and 15% off.

So the P205 won't get Santa Rosa till I am starting school.
So if I were to purchase a laptop now, which is good timing for me financially, would the Satellite P200 with a 17" at 1440x900 with a nVIDIA 7600 256MB Go or the Tecra A9 with Santa Rosa, 15.4" at 1680x1050 and integrated x3100. I am at odds because there is only so much money to go around at one time, so the expense of college and its necessities needs to be stretched.

I would never buy a 17" laptop. Too cumbersome and heavy to lug around. Kinda defeats the point of a laptop in the first place.

Well I guess I will wait to buy a laptop till the whole Centrino Pro platform is out. 15.4" is big enough. I really like the Toshiba Tecra A9, but I hope they put more graphics options on it when Centrino Pro comes out.

I'm now a big fan of business ultraportables for all laptopping. Save the power work for desktop says I...
HP's nc2400 portable doesn't even have a touchpad, and they somehow managed to crap a DVD drive in, which is amazing. It must take up like half the inside of the 'book.
Not one for the Aero fetishists though, but ideal for people who just want to get shit done with their laptop and do day to day non-development stuff.

Well according to a Toshiba press release the Tecra A9 will get a nVIDIA Quadro NVS 130M graphics card in the future. I suspect around mid-May to late-June, as the Tecra M9 has a pre-order for late-June and it has a faster processor and NVS 130M. I guess now I just play the wait game.

How much of a performance increase will a Quadro NVS 130M give over the Intel X3100. Anyone know when it is plotted to come out, I really do hate waiting.

Well my A9 shipped today, I can't wait to get it. Wasn't there a MS program, by program I mean an initiative, that they had going that you could trade in Vista for a copy of XP, or was it a copy of XP for Vista?
