oddly enough that never happened to me, though, there was a patch released just to fix that issue.feedback wrote:I liked Tactics a lot, because I was able to finish it. Fallout 2 corrupted all my saved games in the very last part of the game, never finished it.
wattson: the feel the game was way to diffrent, the NPC's dident have the same witty banter/depth that made the previous 2 games awesome.
there was some of that... the ghoul town worshipping the nuke gave me a chuckle at first... + scattered funny here and there.
but it was a good pure combat game, and i do believe it said "combat oriented" right on the box. anyone that had misconceptions going into it... well it was their own fault.
i just think it gets bashed unfairly.
on the other side, i was very into the combat oriented, party/style tactical game at the time i got tactics... Since i'd just finished a long stint of playing the pants off of jagged alliance 2 when i got tactics.
if i'd played it right on the heels of fallout 1 and 2 i'd probably have been a bit less receptive of the style.
mat... shame to hear that about hammer and sickle. the KGB/Coldwar plot with their SS engine had alot of potential. :/
(i'd still love to see an X-Com game modded into that engine)
wonder if it got shit on because of them getting picked up by UBi to do Heroes 5.
(which they did a pretty good job on; little buggy... but that's par for the course with homm games)

yeah, ubisoft bought everything might & magic when NWC went defunct. then they bought nival and gave them the HOMM5 project.
since then they've been toiling away at the final expansion pack for that game, then supposedly a heroes 6 in the pipe.
programatically it's got alot of S2 in it, cept for being MS SQL backed, the entire game is all XML.
pretty easy to mod if you figure out how it works... since 90% of the source is human readable. and its certainly the best heroes game since 3, i highly enjoyed it, and am eagerly waiting for the tribes of the east expansion.

Bit of a bump; NMA got scans of the Game Informer Fallout 3 article this weekend, and Fallout forums everywhere have gone a bit bonkers.
It's looking like Fallout 3 is primarily going to be an FPS with an "Over the shoulder" Gears of War style option.
It also sounds like they're implementing a "Real time with pause" option, similar to KoTOR and the Baldur's Gate games.
Then there's the picture of Bethesda's "Supermutant", and the concept of the Fatman "Nuclear Catapult", a catapult that throws mini nukes.
Myself, I'm not impressed, but I'm sure this will please people who are fans of Oblivion rather than Fallout.
Edit: oh, and it looks like the primary development platform is the xbox360.

Info from the article, courtesy of Penny Arcade forums:
Have to tell you, sounds great to me.

- Game runs on an evolved version of the Oblivion engine. Third person view has been reworked since the verdict was that the Oblivion version sucked balls.
- Game starts with your birth and your mother's death in a vault hospital. This is essentially the character customization part of the game. Your father hands you up to have your DNA analyzed and you get to pick out all your character traits. Your dad takes off his mask to reveal similar traits to the ones you picked.
- You grow up in the vault and as you grow you get your first book titled "You're Special" which allows you to choose you baseline stats for each of your 7 primary aptitudes. You'll also get your first weapons and wrist computer (menu) as you get older you'll take tests to determine the initial layout of your skills and traits.
- Every aspect of character creation is based on S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system. Of your 14 skills you can tag 3 to grow at a faster rate than the rest as you level up.
- Battle system is called the Vault-tec Assisted Targeting System (V.A.T.S.). The article states. "While you'll certainly be able to tackle enemies in real time using first person shooting, V.A.T.S. lets players pause time and select a target at their leisure". Battle system still uses action points, but once you've used them up you'll still be able to fight targets in real time while they charge back up.
- Game is still violent and gory. One of the featured screens is of a guy's head exploding in super gory detail. Apparently all gory deaths in the game will be in slow motion.
- More than one way to play the game. Go balls out and kill people, or sneak past situations, or perhaps talk your way out of situations.
- Enemies can target you just like you can target them, so you can get injured in very specific points on you body. This is in addition to an all new health/radiation system. This new system has you measuring how radiated certain things (like water) are and how they affect you when you consume them.
- Karma system returns
- XP based system, most XP comes from quests
- Level cap is 20
- 9 - 12 possible endings based on your actions in the game
- No level scaling like oblivion, you walk into a high level area, you die horribly.
- There are NPC's you can hire, but this is not a party based game.

Seen the scans yet?
I won't link directly to them, but you can see them for yourself if you head on over to "No Mutants Allowed".
I'm not one of these people who's convinced that turn-based combat and a top-down camera are things of the past, so I thought a Fallout 3 using a system similar to Silent Storm would have been the best possible scenario for a new sequel.
I guess the developer are just too scared to take that chance.
Needless to say, this is Fallout 3 in name only to me. It has already lost a lot of what made the original games so special in an effort to pander to the mass market, when it has been proven time and time again by games such as Civilization and Heroes of Might & Magic that turn-based, top-down games can sell incredibly well.
