No bullshit.

i've been waiting for this launch for over 6 months, can't wait to get me one...

as a sheer workhorse, nothing is going to beat this, 1280x800 in that sort of size and weight is unheard of. Plus it's dual core, bonus, plus it's 2GB as standard, bonus. Battery issue is a pain, but then again, I never replaced my battery on my last powerbook or any laptop I've owned.

Hate to break it to you Turb... 2GB might be standard, but that's all you're ever going to get since the RAM is soldered onto the board. Then again I'm looking for an 8 gig kit to supplement the 4 I already have in my Mac Pro...

in all honesty, i'd only use this machine for excel and outlook. like i said, just a little workhorse. 2gb is more than scalable enough for that.

Excel and Outlook in a small form factor?

Why not get a smart phone and be done with it?

the 1 USB port problem is pretty bad IMO. a lot of people use a USB port on a laptop for the mouse.

what happens if oyu want to use a flash drive or whatever? you have to unplug the mouse everytime?

depends how you look at it, using a $1800 laptop to manage $54m worth of stock-turn would be a worthwhile investment I'd have thought? i've previously had a Fujitsu Lifebook Special Edition, a Sony TX and a Sony SZ. The Lifebook and the TX were the same problem, beautiful form factor and great for portable working (trains etc), but shit for screen size and arkward to work with. The SZ had an immense screen and was reasonably portable, but quite often I'd leave it at my desk and not take it with me because the battery life was shit and it was cumbersome to carry around. This notebook seems to have the portability of the first two yet the screen resolution of the SZ, plus the fact it has a 5hr battery life.

Number of times I've walked away from my desk to visit somewhere and left that damn SZ there, only to be called 15 minutes later to be asked a question to which the answer is stored on that damn thing is countless.

been there done that... can't read a damn thing on it and it doesn't even answer phone calls properly.... Windows Mobile 6 new thingy.

btw: dave, can I ask why you need 12GBs? I can't actually think of a task which would require that unless you've suddenly decided to render transformers 2 at home or something.

Indeed, this is not a general purpose laptop. Portability is the number one priority here, and it seems to be a great alternative to any Dell (weak cpu, small screen) or Sony (thick, less RAM, more expensive) in the same category.

dell doesn't exactly have a decent ultra portable laptop... I'm talking about a latitude, not an inspiron here. the x61 is a much better comparison.

I was comparing to a SZ, this one is more than an inch thicker and almost twice as heavy. Not the same league.

Loooks like it's highly intolerant to physical abuse, which is bad bad bad for any portable device.

I guess bluetooth works. Seems a bit restrictive. Most everyone I know uses a USB mouse.

maybe i'm the only person in this world who this laptop is suited to, i never use a mouse with a laptop....

The only thing sony have produced which is in the same league as this laptop is:
The SZ Series (or the S series and the Z series' before it). Always hugely expensive and the battery life is terrible even in stamina mode.

The T, TX, TZ Series. All have an amazingly portable form factor and are great to carry around, but the screen resolution and size make them very difficult to use. Battery life and performance is acceptable but not in the same league as the Air.

The X505 (Now discountinued). This flopped as a product, so some of you might have never even of heard of it. But essentially the same concept as the Air, but was too expensive (£2000... $4000!) And the performance even in its day, was terrible. The screen resolution was also bad.

yeah, but EVERYTHING is thicker and heavier than that.
