I hated dead Rising too...odd. Crackdown and Dead Rising got great acclaim from most 360 people, and they are two of my least favorite games on the system. I'm crazy.
Anyone that likes Quake 3 should definitely get Shadowrun. It's competitive gaming at it's best if you ask me. It beats halo 3 by a landslide, halo 3 is ok fo giggles but Shadowrun ownz. Plus, it's real cheap right now. Forza 2 is fun but hardcore, PGR4 is a lot of fun, so is burnout revenge.
Just out of curiosity tnf, how long did you play Dead Rising for?
The first few character levels, up to about 13, were really off-putting; so much so that I thought I'd bought a duffer.
But after that, everything began to click together, and the game started to reveal itself.
Fender wrote:Shadowrun was fucking awful. 66 on metacritic. It went on sale about 1 week after it was released.
Have you played it? Cause the game ownz, controls are awsome, gameplay is incredible and level design is the best I've seen since Q3.
The reason it got low reviews was cause it didn't have a single player, only multiplayer and it's rather limited in gameplay types. However, if you like the gameplay types they offer, and I do, the game is incredible.

I don't even remember, but you've probably got a point in saying I didn't give it enough time. Something about it just never made me really get into it.

I tried it with high hopes. I returned it to the rental place within a day.
It sucked balls.
Really? Man... I don't get you guys I'm pretty picky when it comes to games I think Shadowrun owns. The level of strategy in that game destroy's all other fps games. It's definitely not a game for the casual gamer though, it took me about a month of solid playing before I could really say I was adept at playing it. Even then, I was only adept with one race and certain weapon/magic/tech combo it took me even longer to appreciate the other races...
I don't think you gave the game a fair chance tnf, you're missing out.
The thing I liked about Q3 was the gameplay mechanics, like strafe jumping, rockt jumps etc etc... Shadowrun has that element with all the skills and tech you can buy for your character but it takes time to get used to using em properly...
Either way... different strokes for different folks, I can totaly understand people that don't like certain games, I'm sure the aspect of being able to teleport through walls behind unsuspecting players can definitely not appeal to everyone I just find the added dimension in gameplay challenging which makes it fun.
people often get turned off cause of the crappy graphics.
I played it for 2 weeks with clanmates, then sold it back.
My problems w/ Shadowrun:
Unbalanced classes.
Unbalanced weapons.
Graphics were horrible.
Character animations, they didn't even bother w/ a climb animation for ladders. The characters simply stopped their walking animation and moved up.
Game types were limited and repetitive.
Multiplayer matching was horrible. It took forever. And that was when it was first released. Now that the serves are (probably) empty, I can't imagine how long you'd have to wait for a match.
The game genuinely felt like it wasn't finished. IIRC, he game studio went under a couple months later.
Yeah I agree, wait times to find matches were horrible when the game launched, typicly it takes me about 30 seconds max to find one today and the servers are full. Finding a game is never a problem.
As for the balancing issue lol, if you think it isn't balanced then you were just getting owned.
The climbing animation 9 (Lack there of) is lame, yes, I agree, get over it.
