yeah apparently crysis doesn't like 3-way SLi, which is ok since hardly anyone has a rig that exotic

in dx10 mode it doesn't like regular sli or crossfire either. in a nutshell what happens is it doesn't distinguish between 1 or 2 gpus and everything gets rendered twice. couple that with extra driver overhead for 2 gpu's and it can be slower than 1.

My 'kong-stealthing run took a pretty severe hit just now when I upended a bag of niknaks into my lap and momentarily lost concentration.

This shit never happened to the A-Team. Mind you, I don't think they ever actually killed anyone, either.

I'll let you guys in on a secret: software from Crytek is held together with spit and bubble gum. It's amazing it even runs.

Pro tip: There's a reason why Crytek has scheduled WEEKLY patches for this game. (see above statement)

Hey man, I'm not one to disagree, I know you worked with them and I remember the whole piracy thing. Sounds a lot like a bunch of enthusiastic devs being horribly mismanaged by the entire chain above them. The engine's fucking great (in terms of what it can do ignoring the problems), and just like the original the first chunk of the game where everyone was really enthusiastic about it is really evident and it's a load of fun to play... then just like the first it segues into dumb alien invasion nonsense in caverns and futuristic pap... Noone wants that, just the jungle/island stealth badass stuff with a wide open environment and stuff to play with/look at...

Sandbox good, this apparent obsession with shoehorning linear storylines over the top bad.

EDIT: man, I started this post in a whoooole different place to where it ended.

They could make a sexy looking RPG out of this engine, massive open environements, stunning effects, not to mention the character models are amazing.

also, if they hadn't blown their budget on all that other shit, they could have had the REAL jason statham instead of a look-and-soundalike

Bump

I like the game so far. But I do get a bit tired of the stealth and reinforcements when you are seen.

Did anyone else who played it have the very high detail option grayed out and not even selectable? I have it all on high, and bumped AA up to 8x and am still able to hold a steady 30 fps min., but would like to see what very high looks like.

This Asus 4870 is a great card.

High is only in Vista... Unless you hack it to work in Xp.

What? Its been known since the beta that you can unlock the higest mode in XP and its pretty much exactly the same thing, just a slight bit slower. Google it.

Well the highest as DX10 "only" settings that will only run on DX10, i.e. Vista exclusive... But by tweaking the ini files by hand you can get them all working on DX9 under XP...

i assume you need a GF8 minimum to make this work, and it does beg the question about how these fx are "dx10" when they'll blatantly run on XP

i'd do the tweaking, but getting crysis to look awesome AND playable on a 24" LCD is not really an option right now. there seems to be a serious shortage of widescreen res available, at least thru the in-game menu

Because DX is just a nice, clean, faster way of doing things really. A shit load of the stuff is available on DX9 anyway, its just easier and better to code for on DX10, so its faster.

it turns out to be an easy hack I found out. Just edit the cfg files in the cvargroups directory. You can download the edited files here:
http://mrgnome.wordpress.com/2008/01/25 ... ated-hack/

So I am running the game in very high now (minus a few of the dx10 specific things) but the game does look even better this way - not huge differences, but noticeable. I'm running at 8xaa and very high - using r_displayinfo=1 to watch fps and now they are dropping to around 22 when I am in firefights and a few other places, but still playable and very very pretty.

Here's one screenshot - during a cutscene obviously.

dont understand how one can prefer eyecandy over fluidity

It's never 'hitchy' so its not a big issue. I'm playing the game mainly stealthily now as well, so gameplay-wise the very high settings are just fine. If it gets bad later on when the action picks up I'll obviously bump them down to just high again. So I'm not sacrificing fluidity for eye candy yet.

Crysis is known for being pretty playable even when the frame rate is crawling. I run it with a few of the "very high" features switched on (sunbeams, etc.) and it's pretty fluid on my mac pro with an 8800.... but certainly not at my display's native resolution of 1920x1200. Still looks pretty sweet in 720p on my tv though. 8x AA is a bit excessive, don't you think? I get a pretty large fps hit from any AA
