Brilliant Idea or Fatal Mistake
Re: Brilliant Idea or Fatal Mistake
I thought I might have mispersieved that vid. I rode alot, years ago, in Northern Idaho. There were a few good roads there. It shook me up when a partner of mine hit a moose doin about 120. Killed the moose. My friend never did get back on. That kinda freak accident just happens though. I admire the skills of some of these performance riders, definately.

just be careful man. i don't know anything about bikes but i can tell you my buddy bought a GSX-600 (i know it was a 600, idk about GSX) and he loved it. rode for a while and ended up getting cocky thinking he could drive drunk without a shirt or helmet on and spun out going 45mph on a sandy corner. thank god he landed on grass or he wouldn't have any skin on his back. shit even landing in grass he was fucked up.
just be smart, shit can change your life in a split second.

Re: Brilliant Idea or Fatal Mistake
I am somewhat suprised by the seriousness of this thread, sound advice really. My current plan is to get those GSX-Rs out of my mnid and try and take a motorcycle driving school sometime this summer and see if I find it fun or scary as fuck.
Part of me thinks this craze for a motorcycle is just me wanting a massive load of adrenaline, lots of shit been happening lately. So I feel doing the school and then waiting till things are more settled and then deciding if I still want a bike is the best thing to do.

If you're really interested in finding out about sportbikes and learning how to ride one properly, check out Keith Code's schools.

Might be better after you've ridden a bit, done the MSF course, etc. But Keith Code is the fucking MAN when it comes to teaching the fundamentals of performance riding. A friend of mine went to a school of his at Virginia International Raceway. I'm fucking dying to go.

Take the MSF for sure. They can take you from not knowing shit about a bike to having the basics and the knowledge in 3 days.
Its "do as I say, not as I do", but the 250 or 500 is a good idea. I rode a gs500 and it was pretty fun. That said, I started on a FZ6 and I don't regret it. It's upright riding, tame below 7k, and I swear the damn thing rides itself. I think 600s are possible to start on, but you have to pick the tamer ones and not the supersports. It's also partially in the hands of the user.
The GS500 and 250 are good, but trust me, in a few months time you'll be wanting more. I scared myself when I started wanting more than my FZ6, and it's about 100hp, goes from 0-60 faster than I can sneeze (in 1st gear no less), and it screams its way to 14k.
God I love that bike.
I did ride my dad's once, but it scared me so much I never opened it up. He has a FZ1 that's jetted and its about 160hp, revs to like 10 or 11. That thing is fucking scary.

Pffft, it's not even close to 160hp, trust me.
It scared you.

Re: Brilliant Idea or Fatal Mistake
aaaah she's so pretty

For the cost is the main reason I went with it. New 250 ninjas are 3000, Older ones the people think are worth it still. GS500s can be in the 2-3 grand range easy.
I paid 3500 for mine, a 2004, in november of 06 with 6 thousand miles on it. God I love this bike...
It's definitely an adrenaline rush too, whether its on-ramp 1/4 miles when you first get it, or finally scraping the footpegs and wearing the chicken strips down to a fingernail.
Edit:oh, and it has undertail exhaust too. Pain in the summer, but when it gets colder...seat warmer!

They were 140 at the factory, douche. I assure you if it isn't 160 its in the high 150s, at the crank of course.Nightshade wrote:Pffft, it's not even close to 160hp, trust me.

I have less than 2 years riding experience, and yeah, it did scare me cause I knew I'd kill myself on it. If I had posted about riding the big bike and been all confident you would have called me a stupid kid who couldn't handle it.

I know all about FZ1s, dipshit, my buddy rides an '02. You're thinking about bhp and not rwhp which is what matters. I forgive you, because you're dumb.
I'd have called you a moron no matter what you'd posted, because you're a moron. And there's a HUGE difference between understanding your limitations and respecting a bike and being a fucking faggot and being scared of it.

Dude, I said in my post it was at the crank. I'm not dumb, you just can't read.Nightshade wrote:I know all about FZ1s, dipshit, my buddy rides an '02. You're thinking about bhp and not rwhp which is what matters. I forgive you, because you're dumb.

Your bike is nice too, but you've also been riding a lot more. Seriously, if I had a SS 1k at less than 2 years experience you'd say I would be fine if I respected it? You just told the riding noob to get a small bike. I do respect my dad's bike's power, and I know I wouldn't handle it responsibly right now. I guess I should have said that instead of that "I'm scared of it".

I edited my second post and it was to add the seatwarmer part. I said nothing about the HP in it.
If you are really that self-conscious about going to see the optometrist because it'll make you feel "old" just tell me your area code and I'll make an appointment for you.

I didn't say anything about horsepower. Guilty conscience, faggot?
Re: Brilliant Idea or Fatal Mistake
I'm seriously considering earning a motorcycle license instead of a G2. There's just no way I'm going to go through car payments with these rising gas prices.
Would it be better to just grab a starter bike like a Ninja 250 rather than selling my blood just to own a car? I'm just a poor college student but I need wheels.
Any comments or thoughts from the bike experts on how much money you'd be saving? I've personally always wanted to ride anyways.

Yeesh, a motorcycle as sole form of transportation up there? Not really the best alternative, you only get about 6-7 months of decent riding weather. Even if you got a dualsport you'd have a hell of a time just trying to stay upright in snow, not to mention freezing your fucking balls off.
Re: Brilliant Idea or Fatal Mistake
I didn't take weather into account. Hrmph, you're totally correct, still I've got this sudden penchant for riding

When I first got my bike it was December of '04. I rode constantly, rode in to work one morning when it was 28 degrees.
Now? Fuck that shit. Under 60 or over 90 and the beast stays in the goddamn garage.

Re: Brilliant Idea or Fatal Mistake
Move down here where you can ride 50 weeks a year.

Texas? No thanks, I don't speak Spanish. And Florida was the fourth circle of hell, no need to move to the seventh.
