The alternative is driving all the way there on your own.

Sorry...but I have to laugh at you utter fagg0ts for buying (and loving) a game that makes you do things you'd normally do during your average day. His comment about the "Write A Letter To Your Mom" mission was fucking spot on.
Sorry....but as a game designer I am completely lost on the motivations of why someone would spend sixty bucks and up to perform menial "chores" and think it's gameplay. Taking friends out for movies and drinks? Watching television? Surfing the web? In a fucking game?
I just don't get it.

Re: Zero Punctuation: GTAIV
websurfing and tv are totally seperate from the game. you are not obligated to do it, much like you're not obligated to listen to the radio when you're in a car.
they are added elements, mostly for lollers, but also to further enhance the consistency of the gameworld.

Re: Zero Punctuation: GTAIV
I understand that. I'm not specifically talking about GTA4 but rather other games that make "objectives" out of boring shit. Games like "Second Life", "The Sims" or even "The Sims: Blind Date"....I'm utterly confused as to why people think these games are fun.
Seriously....has anyone here spent more than 10 seconds playing "Turkey Punch" in Doom 3?
Dunno....quantity does not equal quality. Like I said...I get it in the "enhancing consistency" approach, but it seems to be more and more of a focus of gameplay.
FFS...running around and "tagging" with a spray can was seriously considered a game mechanic in GTA:SA...and was a sub-mission to complete. That's the kind of crap I don't get.

Re: Zero Punctuation: GTAIV
agreed. SA went overboard with the extra objectives that had nothing to do with the game whatsoever, but all required a tutorial.
people like sims because of the same reason they like dollhouses. ultimate escapism perhaps ?

I went and uninstalled the game after being confronted with that mission.GONNAFISTYA wrote:FFS...running around and "tagging" with a spray can was seriously considered a game mechanic in GTA:SA...and was a sub-mission to complete. That's the kind of crap I don't get.

What's next? A "Tying Your Shoes" mini-game before you can leave the house to steal a car?

What's really fucking insane is how many copies these asinine games have sold. All of those crap Sims titles are consistently among the top selling titles. Makes me fucking sick.GONNAFISTYA wrote:I understand that. I'm not specifically talking about GTA4 but rather other games that make "objectives" out of boring shit. I can understand not enjoying some of the things in GTA4 like the dates, etc. They annoy the shit out of me, too. The rest of the game is enough fun that I can overlook the minor irritations like taking Little Jacob to the tittie bar.
Re: Zero Punctuation: GTAIV
my actual day job is headshotting north korean soldiers on a tropical island, so GTA4 sounds like just thing to wind down with after a hard dayGONNAFISTYA wrote:Sorry...but I have to laugh at you utter fagg0ts for buying (and loving) a game that makes you do things you'd normally do during your average day. This game is a 10.
Re: Zero Punctuation: GTAIV
It's not a mission; you never have to read the letter to progress the game. Every "average day" activity is extra.GONNAFISTYA wrote:Sorry...but I have to laugh at you utter fagg0ts for buying (and loving) a game that makes you do things you'd normally do during your average day. Well sure, I can see stupid kids with oblivious parents letting them buy that particular brand of shit, but think about how many "adults" have to be plunking down cash to grab "The Sims: Day At The DMV" or whatever the latest fucking lame title is.Chupacabra wrote:
