jesus that strafe video was insane! how do you turn soo sharp when strafe jumping?

most of those runs were done with cpm physics (as opposed to the regular vq3) which explains the sharp corner turns without losing momentum.

That depends on your definition of mastering - if mastering to you means beating all the strafe runs in the video posted above, ofcourse it's hard. For most people though, mastering would mean completing any strafe pad run thrown at you and not missing jumps on the conventional maps.

I'll say one thing for strafe jumping: it makes a shit load of difference if you have a decent mouse. One that can handle a lot of DPI. I learned Q3 style strafe jumping in Q2* but couldn't do it one bit until I switched from a ball mouse to an optical mouse. My strafing skills gained another boost when I switched to a high-resolution laser mouse.

* The technique is identical, but you have even less air control in Q2 - namely zilch.

First off, you need to play the game and beat it before taking on online players. Like ^misantropia^ said in the beginning..practice makes perfect. Learning footwork, than aiming..than combining the two together. It was said to learn Cpma and promode physics, but I'd say you should figure out normal movement before learning Cpma(promode physics). The game is Quake3..Cpma is a modification.
First off..you need to beat the bots... when you can beat bots on nightmare(/addbot xaero 5) than you're ready to take on players and learn how to fight someone who uses strafe jumping(since bots can't do that). Plus..you need to download many custom maps at ..::LvL and learn them like the maps said above by JB. The normal in-game maps are pretty simple and will kind of keep you back.
Another thing is to learn to protect weapons on the map..such as the Railgun and the Rocket Launcher. If your opponent can't get the strong weapons than they have very little to dominate the map. I personally will control someone with a shotgun if I can keep close to them..the reason I say close..is that each weapon is made to be used at a certain distance. If you want to use a Rocket Launcher from far away for example, you have to know where the opponent is going next so when they get there, they get nailed.

Beat the bots...very important. I've had alot of people debate that in saying F#ck the bots, but their always there, rather than looking online for a server at whatever point that you have the time to be able to find one. I personally haven't played online regularly in like 3 years..but everytime that I've been able to jump on a friends computer I end up controlling the match until they jump on spectator and do not want to play, and the Server operator ends up kicking me from the server for being a supposed "bot". I'd say that the bots are good practice. Start on level 3 at first..than work your way up.

Score is something like that yeah. Oh I know man, Daler was and no doubt still is amazing. No shame there, it's pretty cool you got a chance to have a game with him, never mind what the score is.

i think the only "match demo" of me vs someone from DS was from ECL in 2002 (me vs reflux on pt4... he has a huge comeback to beat me in OT). but I have 92+MB of DS-related demos including some gems like the KIT2 finals. just pm me if you have an ftp set up...
