Yeah, thats the plan. And why not?

I said we wouldn't be selling it. I didn't say we wouldn't be making a profit...? Plus we are looking to the future here as well, and I've already had very small talks with a few publishers, one of which has "M" and "S" and "live" in the title...

So ya know, always look to the future and keep your head up, thats what we say.

GL with that o'dium - the tech demos are impressive. Have the physics of the game changed at all? If i were to play Q2DM1 - The Edge - am i still able to double jump from the stairs where the chain gun is to the armour on the boxes?

No, because we ditched Quake 2 maps a looooooooooong time ago lol, we work with Q3/D3/Q4 maps now, but we only support Q3 maps because some people still like them, and its all the same for our rendering at the end of the day (Apart from VIS, but we unified that anyway).

Physics wise, its no longer a Quake 3 stype speed running, bunny hoping game. Its slower paced, more like COD4. You cant really use iron sights in a game where the guy your shooting at is running 90mph over a map :p

Although while its slower, we do have a sprint, which lowers your gun and puts you into a faster run. Nice effect goes with that too, very cinematic.

I don't get it. Please explain, o'dium: you are not going to sell the game so you won't be generating any revenue that way. Where is that profit going to come from? In-game advertising?

I really cant discuss it mate atm. As silly as it sounds, OverDose will make a profit, we wont have adds in the games, and it will be free to play...

Thats all I can say on it because thats all the info we have released at this time :(

Sorry mang :(

Dont be sad, be happy. The physics are the same, just the speeds are different, so I woulnd't be surprised in somebody finds a new jump or 12 ;)

Is it some sort of hypnotizing text message flickering at the beginning of each level saying 'transfer all your money you otherwise would have spent on Quake 5 to our Overdose-related bank account on the bahamas' or something like that? :tard:

So you're promoting a commercial project? That seems a bit off for these forums which are about amateur work. I'm beginning to agree more with voodoochopstik's post.

Erm...? I guess reading isn't one of your strong points, is it...?

There are so many assholes at Q3W these days, everybody has to stab everybody else in the back.

I am not being an asshole. If it's a commercial project then it's not something you should be posting on Quake3world. Is it or isn't it?

"As silly as it sounds, OverDose will make a profit, we wont have adds in the games, and it will be free to play..."

This is what made me think it is, if I've misunderstood this then point out my mistake.

There are all kinds of possibilities here (e.g. there might be a (not-free) expansion/addition of some kind to the basic game, or the profit might come from impressing whoever with deep pockets and getting some sort of contract, or maybe the "profit" will just come from getting lots of attention and sales for an entirely different game).

The problem is that o'dium isn't able to discuss it freely, for whatever reason, and so needs to be "vague and mysterious".

For now, at least, I don't mind the thread, and I don't think it's out of place here. The project looks cool and fun, from what I can tell.

I would suggest that discussion of money and profits and hax0r-thwarting might be a little pointless and frustrating at this point (since we're not going to be given the whole picture anyway), and that perhaps we should just stick to discussion of the game itself?

I agree pjw 100%. Lets not de-reail the thread any more.

So it's essentially a commercial project with a shaky plan for profit that you wont discuss. Not something that should be on Quake3world.

I'm confused, are you honestly trying to just start a flame war or something? I mean, either you have issues reading and understanding (For which I'm very sorry), or you really just are winding us up for a laugh... Seriously, because we wont be discussing all our plans publicly means its shakey...? And even though the games free to play, free to download and free to own, we are going commercial...?

STOP USE.

I'm asking a simple question and you're not answering it. I am not flaming you but you seem to be determined to turn it into that by calling me an asshole then insulting my reading comprehension.

If this will make money (and I do not need to know how) it is commercial. You stated it would make a profit.

Is it intended to make money or not? Clear that point up for me and I'll leave you alone if it's not. If it is then you're advertising on an amateur forum which is not on.

The game itself isnt going to be sold, no?
At the end of the day, its being made by a bunch of guys freely, sitting in a room. Its gonna be released online, freely, for everybody to play.

Its using a Quake engine.

Its supposed to be here more than you are at this given time mate.

Erm... don't kill me for that, both of you; just trying to cool down this situation :owned: The asshole statement was probably pointed to those who constantly try to change maps and mods and fuck them up so that no one wants to download it any more because there are so many bad (unauthorized) versions of it that the risk of getting one is just too high. At least, that's how I would interpret the asshole statement.
And for now, let's just say that o'dium's running a bet with his mum: she'll give him 50 $ if he manages to finish the thread-related mod. And THAT'S how he's gonna make money with it ;) If in the end it really turns out to be a commercial product and that there are rules in this forum forbidding that he informs us about it, THEN we all start a flame war or whatever. How about that? :D

monaster as much as o'dium is trying to bait me I'm not flaming and the question is still not directly answered.

You said it would make a profit, does this now mean you 'misspoke' or are you evading answering directly?

Jesus man, let it go. The whole point is that the games free to play and free to download. Thats all you need to know and all I'm going to say on the matter.

Your refusal to answer points to something shady which is why I have pursued this. It is a commercial project and you know you shouldn't really be posting it here. If it were not there should be no problem saying so. Have you actually contacted id about this? I'd be happy to do so for you if not.

Free to download and play doesn't sound commercial to me. Let it go.
