I saw one of those staged films regarding shop class injuries when I was young. When the guy carved his arm up with the table saw I learned a healthy respect for table saws. For me it was the fact that it looked real that got me to pay attention.

I guess evolution and Idiocracy really are true.

I learned my respect for table saws, drill presses, industrial size planers, etc., from the horror stories my old shop teacher would tell about people putting wood into the planer the wrong way and having a board shoot out of the fucking thing at mach 2 and crush someone's pelvis or some lady with long hair getting it stuck in the drill press and having her head slammed against the table of it while a chunk of hair and skin is torn off.

He had a million of them, most probably bullshit, but all cool in the mind of a 14 year old.

Shop class teachers are probably why we have shrinks.
