The Q6600 is a Kentsfield, he's probably better off with the newer Yorkfield processors like the Q8200 (~$200) or the Q9300 (~$300). Any higher and you're stepping into Core i7 920 territory (~$360), though mobos for i7's are currently crazy expensive.

k, picked out my processor - Intel Q9550. a little undecided on the mobo though. not sure if i should get something SLI/Crossover capable since i don't think i'm going to be that hardcore about it. suggestions?

p.s. leaning toward http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... _-13128369 for the mobo but open to suggestions.

For the price point, that board has the same features as my P5Q-E, for less.... interesting.

the first one is way under the price, the second is closer to it.

the P5Q-E retails for $18X around here.

fo the money, the 4850x2 will do what i need it to do. i don't have near as much time for gaming as i used to but still want something that'll run current games.

oic

I'm just not a fan of SLI/Crossfire since a lot of games still seem to have issues with multi-card setups. You also get high power consumption and temps. It's usually better to just stick with a single powerful card.

a couple of games do have those issues, but they're not games i'd be playing. if i was going to go with a single gpu solution i'd be all over the GTX285.

maybe i'll be all over the gtx anyway....

display is ass from boot up (weird characters/colors vertical lines) obstructing view quite a bit. reseated card and nada. also made sure chipset up to date on mobo. installing vid drivers made it worse - can't even get to the desktop before it bsod's.
