Yea, the missing flag sound has kinda caught me by surprise a couple of times.

I'm sure the bug's already been reported, but maybe we should put it out on the QL forums just in case.

QuakeLive reminds me of the good ol' days, when there were just a few good players on each team. The other day I had most caps, most kills and no deaths. Felt like the year 2000 ffs.

Sad thing is, the gaps in skill are way too enormous to overcome for anyone new to this game. In the OSP scene, it took years of playing for newcomers to hang with the average player even in 2004, let alone now.

I'm a fairly mediocre player, but always thought it was strangely awesome to log in to an OSP game and have my ass handed to me, knowing how amazingly good the other players were. It would be like a fan at a professional soccer game being able to step down into the field and play alongside the professionals. You look like a fool but every once in a while you get a frag and you think you're the fucking shit.

I am hoping lots of people join quake live and I'll finally be able to play against people at my mediocre skill level again.

Yea, and the skill rankings are supposed to help with that - allowing newer players to be on servers with other less experienced ones.

I've heard several newcomers say how awesome they thought the game was, so it must be helping some.

Hmmm, looks like I have a section in a frag video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1yaeucT_ok

They should have asked me for some demos, it's pretty weak sauce.

But that's sort of the problem: you don't get better by playing with newbies, you get better by repeatedly playing the pros. The skill ranking will only widen the gap between good players and novice players.

BTW, shameless plug for a video of me done a few years back: http://www.own-age.com/vids/video.aspx?id=7584

Not sure if everybody knew, but you can use custom huds as well.

[lvlshot]http://www.quake3world.com/dmr/qlhud.jpg[/lvlshot]

Link if anybody wants it: http://www.quake3world.com/dmr/ui.zip

The ui folder goes into C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3
Then /cg_hudfiles ui/doomer.cfg
Then /vid_restart

I didn't make it from scratch, I used some dude's named injxs as a base last year.

Are picmip and other commands the same as in q3? What about enemymodel and color?

I haven't done any customizing to mine at all yet.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3\screenshots

Everything is set up like q3.

Thanks.

I lost my old configs but I'm working up a new one.

I just logged in and got this:
Unable to load the server list
Internal data error
Please try again in a few minutes…
But after a minute or so it refreshed and loaded everything.

Might try it again Memph.

Why haven't some of you fags returned my (CoachHines) friend invites? I will hunt you down IRL.

Might help if I actually logged some play time but I'm still too busy with etqw.

For some reason, every time I log in it says I have 3 pending friend invites, but my invite inbox sure as hell is empty.

Mine does that too.

And I don't think I've seen any invites from CoachHines.

Rook I think at one time I saw two accounts for you...so I'll re-invite both versions.

Does anybody else miss two of the TA terrain maps, or am I alone in this? I remember some epic CTF battles on those maps.

Well, I only remember 2 of them that I thought were good maps -- I thought there were 3 originally, and one of them I didn't really care for.

does QL support the same number of players per server as Q3? used to love the terrain maps, but they're better with a decent sized crowd (24 > 64).

biggest number of slots i've seen in QL so far was 16 (maybe 18) for an FFA game.
