Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
is there a way to load configs in QLive?
Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
aye. put them into your user profile folder, e.g.:
"C:\Documents and Settings\menket\Application Data\id Software\quakelive\home\baseq3"
...then exec them from the console as usual.

Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
sweetness! now if only i can find an old copy of my configs...
Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
copying and execing should work, but did not do much good for me when i tried it with my old osp cfg. Still had to add loads manually.
Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
yea, they changed the names of a few commands, the OSP/CPMA item and area codes for chats don't work, and my gfx are a little jerky. oh, and apparently i can't do bridge to rail anymore. sweet. =\

I think is pretty cool and it's what got me to return to play quake 3 again. The only thing i did not like about quake live is that you can not make your own server.

Rumor has it private servers will be spawned soon and will be available for a monthly fee.

Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
I was a really oldskool quake lover from back in the day when Q3 first came out i played on pc and dreamcast at the time (LOL dreamcast)
i never knew about Qlive until i tried reinstalling Q3 again the other day on a whim wondering if there would even be servers up... my first hour with Qlive was very frustrating trying to get it to maintain a solid framerate in fullscreen mode. windowed mode ran great, but the experience was simply not the same without fullscreen..
after poking around the forums and messing with a buncha settings in both Qlive and IE, i finally achieved solid 100+ FPS in fullscreen mode and since have been extremely satisfied..
The carnage is even more abundant it seems in Qlive and im very impressed with whats been done to gather a strong community element as well with all the features that remind me kind of like WoW Armory or the stats you can see in some xboxlive games.. considering this is a beta i tip my hat to ID for bringing back a masterpiece that i thought was long forgotten as i yawned playing Counter-Strike Source and AWPing the heads off sluggishly slow moving counter terrorists.

Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
i think its horrible compared to q3. the hitbox in ql is garbage. but it is in a beta and hopfully it will get better, but right now, its horirble
Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
I personally haven't noticed any hitbox problems, for me it seems pretty spot on with keel/bright.
However i did play some vintage q3two days ago, and i have to say i did notice the difference in movement. Hard to describe since it's not as obvious as CPMA compared to OSP, but QL feels much more 'light' to me. Or something.

Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
Is it better, worse or just different?
Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
Mmh, just different i guess. If i had to pick what it feels most like, movement-wise that is, out of cpma, osp and vanillaq3 i would pick the latter.
It could be just me as an osp-duder though. It's pretty much only thing i played after the early vq3 days.
CPMA is pretty much a love/hate thing for me. I'm always awed by a skilled fast-paced action packed cpm game. An almost envious feeling came upon me when watching a player like Vo0 just blast trough a map. Downside is i just flatout sucked at it, rape was imminent when i tried a duel.. i never mastered the unique cpma movement. Then again, back when i played a lost of osp i just couldn't be arsed to give it a good number of matches to really get into it..
Also, i'm pretty new on quake live, and coming from a long time of not touching any games i might just be adjusting.
Are you registered mis? Gave it a shot? Be sure to add me when you do so i can look forward dueling an ex-cpmaist! (iirc?)

meh, i noticed the hitbox, but new ways, i agree with you about this part. the strafing to me feels alot diffrent.Zyte wrote:I personally haven't noticed any hitbox problems, for me it seems pretty spot on with keel/bright.

@Zyte: I haven't really played any QL yet but now that the Linux client is out, I suppose I should give it a go.
I should practice a bit before I hit you up because, truth be told, I haven't much played any Q3 in years. =)

Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
The movement is different-ish. When I first migrated, I could not do the b2r jump for the life of me in QL, when it worked 90% of the time in Q3.
I have not noticed any substantial hitbox issues, though, if I miss, it's just because I have sucky aim. I have had games with 85% rail over a hundred shots, so it's not like every second shot goes through.

you with lkff again now Deji? accept my invite

Re: Who thinks Quake Live sucks?
I finally tried out QLive..I don't think it's that bad if you wanna play vQ3, though it would take getting used to the TA weapons mixed in there. Having a Chaingun on q3tourney2 is stupid =/ and they changed a part of the map. It is interesting though, and I like the browser, since I could find a server one state away from me in the US..good luck on finding that for me most of the time on a Q3 server.
I dunno though..it is strange that people can play Q3 for free? I've never found a freeware game that offers what it has though, and it's kind of like ID's way of taking Q3A back from where it is now modified to death. You don't have to download this and that, plus a map and come up with a good enough config to have fast enough speeds, kind of reminds me of the Sega Dreamcast version. Great for Noobs.
I've always been a OSP to CPMA player, so it is somewhat sacrilegious for me to play vQ3(baseq3). It kind of made me feel like I was rewinded back 10 years. I played with r_picmip "0" and it didn't seem to matter, plus it has map "Hidden Fortress". ..as I said though it is strange...but, good for a quick game I guess. Doesn't matter that it doesn't have custom maps from ..::LvL or mods..Q3 still works for all the extra's that QLive will never possess, and half of the noobs in that will probably go buy Q3A anyways once they get sick of it's limitations.
