Well, I had a lot of other analysis to do in addition to that specific problem, so I've been working on it all day.
But just pulling out those values? Maybe 1.5 - 2 hours?

Man, you need to install SQL Express/Desktop Edition.
Heck, with 50,000 rows you could have done it in Access.

will *gene code* work?

And you need to check your PMs

Nope. Just returns an empty table

wtf, how can it? it should list the genes with the code you entered. are we getting crossed wires here? how many gene codes are you looking up?

I hardly ever look up there - I was waiting for a post here.

Might have had a slight miscommunication on that...
I thought you meant enter *column title*
i.e. *NFkB gene symbol*
Instead,
Are you saying enter *Ccl17*
And then enter *Ccl20*
And so on...?
If that's the case, that's exactly what I ended up doing. I just had to do it for 230 different genes...

That would have been useful a day earlier.
But as I'm certainly going to need to do the same thing again for different genes, thanks.

I'll file that away for next time...

All I can follow here is the abbreviations for things like NFkB. People getting their PhD in something like education don't have to deal with these hassles werldhed.

I know. It's ridiculous.
You are familiar with gene microarrays, though right? That what the data is from. I just wanted to look at expression of NFkB target genes.
It would probably help if I was interested in a transcription factor without so many damn targets...

NFkB is a busy one.
Good friend of mine from grad school worked for Rosetta Biosoftware - he knew array stuff inside and out.
If you ever have questions I might be able to shoot them his way. (Not that you have a shortage of experts around you already, but just in case).

We'll see. I might take you up on that... we had another grad student in the lab that did all the array stuff on my project. She just graduated and left, so of course I inherited it all, with no real idea what I'm doing.
