it's fine for jungle (which can get bastard cold at night) as long as you've got a light sleeping bag for an insulating layer. there are flashier brands that cater specifically for shitty climates.

I tend to agree with Ron White when he says, "I wouldn't camp out for 5 days if I were camping".

I use to camp out in the winter time when I was a kid. But now the idea of sitting in a tent, all hot and sweaty, swatting off the bugs, just doesn't seem like my idea of a good time.

I love camping, but not when it involves concrete pads and RV's.

The best kind is packing your gear in to the site, and not seeing another human for a day or two. I haven't done that in a while though. These days we go with a couple of friends to a fairly large, mostly-untouched piece of land that one of them owns, and just hang out around the campfire. Lately I've kinda been looking for a change of scenery.

I agree with this. Too many comforts isn't really camping. I haven't gone in quite some time, but I do enjoy it.

Absolutely LOVE it.

Possibly with the exception of downhill skiing, camping is my favorite activity. I'm going on a short wilderness canoeing trip next weekend in the Boundary Waters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boundary_W ... Wilderness).

I'm surprised you don't like it. Based on your photography, I figured it would be your sort of thing.

EDIT: Just spent a few days at a couple State Parks two weeks ago, and will be camping in Colorado for a week in sept.

spent a lot of time in quetico park(canadian side of boundary waters). longest was 12 days. paddled all the way down to the states side and kinda made a horseshoe loop. went days and days without seeing another soul. quetico is such a surreal place. once you get a short distance in, you can just feel that something special.

for those that don't know it's motor boat free, no logging, no canned food or glass allowed, with close to a thousand lakes to canoe.

I'm dying to get up to quetico sometime. My problem is that it costs too much to get both bwcaw and quetico permits, and going in stateside makes the most sense, being a Minnesota resident. It takes too long to drive all the way up into canada -- cuts too much into paddling time.
Made it into Canada for some day trips last time, but didn't get any farther than that.

Someday, though... someday...
