It's called "progress". I think it's in most dictionaries.

It's called "bitesized". You might want to look into it.

Yeah...bitesized is correct. Perhaps I'd get excited if it was a browser-based game.

No wonder most studios around the world are laying off 20-70% of their staff...games like this *cough*Bladekitten*cough* only require three people and about 8 bucks to make.

whilst people losing their jobs is never fun, this might actually be a sign of the times.
a collapse of the mainstream-gamesindustry bubble if you will, where devs are realizing they dont need the biggest bestest superduper quadruple 298k polygons per krundle gameengine and seventeen overpriced hollywood stars for voiceacting to make an enjoyable and entertaining product.

a positive insight, imo.

Yeah...like Facebook games are a "sign of the times".

What a load of horseshit you just posted about not needing "the biggest bestest superduper quadruple 298k polygons per krundle". You honestly think that marketing teams and the average consumer agrees with you after they've paid hundreds of dollars on powerful new consoles and computers?

And as to your "positive insight", you think that studios closing their doors is a positive thing? Tell that to the thousands of developers now on unemployment. I dare you. I double dare you motherfucker.

sorry what? revisiting a genre is hardly a step backwards. It's better than the stagnating cesspit that 90% of all current games seem to be occupying. What they should have done is release Lara Croft and the shit brown future world of shakey cam over the shoulder cover based shooters.

sales figures of indiegames and xbla arcadegames seem to tell us the average consumer doesnt care about his/her device's power. indie devs have known this for a while now and it seems the bigger devs and publishers are now catching on.
as for Facebook, you obviously don't like it but personal opinion doesn't hold any relevancy here. i dont like it either but that doesnt negate the influence it has on the market.

re unemployed developers. im sure millions of phone operators and bank tellers lost their jobs when computers came around. (it's called progress, i think it's in most dictionaries). yet your heart is not bleeding for them.
you might not realize this but the sole purpose of a business is not to employ people. :!:

anyways, back to the original point. this game is great and its only $10

There will always be niche games that you can buy for 10 bucks on Steam or through Paypal. Those products do not keep the games industry in business.

And I agree that shakey cam cover based shooters do in fact suck but I don't blame devs for that, I blame narrow minded publishers and consumers for that trend.

And yes gamers do want big blockbuster games with epic locations/situations and famous voice actors in them. They've said as much with their wallets. Has everyone forgotten how much money is spent on games every year by consumers? There is absolutely no shortage of gamers who prefer the boxed game method of delivery/quality. Modern Warfare 2 anyone? Jesus christ.

All I'll say about "revisiting genres"...if you want to play a game that was made in 1985 then go and buy the game that was made in 1985. Chances are it's a better game anyways.

I'm guessing when Walmart-parking-lot-shopping-cart-collection becomes the next large industry (as they're the only people hiring) you'd be ok with that? Would you consider hundreds of highly skilled, formerly highly paid programmers now collecting garbage in city parks or working at Burger King progress?

If your point is to defend business and its bottom line then you aren't the person I thought you were.

If those jobs were to become obsolete, I'd call it unfortunate, but probably inescapable.
Like it or not, we all operate in a capitalistic environment.

Except that that abortion of a moneysink seemed to occupy a fair few people and just wouldn't die :(
I remember when we were shown the first trailer (that was what 2 years ago now?) we lol'd - I was lucky to have been in talks with another studio at the time so I got out before the storm.

But you're right, it should have only needed three people and should have been done in a few months...

Haven't played this Lara Croft yet, but will soon as been looking for co-op games so I don't care if it's a simple/cheap game, I'm just hoping the co-op is good! ...hmm, thats another thing, why is co-op so neglected?

Isn't there an infamous quote from some big name dude saying something to the effect of "co-op isn't something that most gamers are interested in"?

OMG that site is a brilliant idea. About a year ago I had to make do with some random Google/Wikipedia searching.

Absolutely love coop

I miss split-screen in racing games, haven't seen it since NFS High Stakes. We PC gamers have friends too, you know?

Am I missing something or is there no way to search/filter? E.g. I'd like to pull up a list of PS3 games, sorted by rating that have "Couch Co-Op".

This is why I'm looking forward to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine.
From RPS:
About five minutes into my demonstration of Relic’s Space Marine I realise what I’m looking at is a 3rd person shooter that draws heavily from Gears of War, so I ask an obvious question. “Is there some kind of cover system?” Relic man grins. “Actually, the team has an internal line about that. We say, ‘Cover is for Pussies.’”

I don’t take my eyes off the screen, but my ears do a double take. “We do have this though,” says Relic man. With the press of a button he sends Ultramarine Captain Titus running straight through a low wall of cover like a wrecking ball, and begins hacking apart the orks on the other side with his chainsword. “Oh,” I hear myself say, mesmerised. “Right!”
Oh yeah, speaking of co-op, who else here is getting Dead Rising 2 on the PC?
I've played it on the PS3, but am also grabbing it on the PC as Zavvi were selling it dirt cheap.

Anyone tried playing co-op on this (PC)? ...it seems the game expects 2 mouse inputs? And if one persons is using a gamepad it seems the button config isn't entirely respected and the gamepad user has no way to aim!

i dont know how the mouse controls work but on the console you use the right stick to aim and pull RT to fire.

Really enjoying LC&TGOL.
I got it for xbox when it came out, but am now playing it on PC, because the graphics are a bit nicer.
I read some moronic complaints about how the isometric perspective sucked, and was a throwback. But I actually find I prefer it over 3d, in this platform, puzzle solving, environment.
