The more expensive one is incredibly sexy but it seems like a lot of extra money just for a little extra space and a nicer kitchen. I would get the cheaper one since it is still nice, and put the extra money back. Seems silly to me to rent a place that costly when you're really just paying for the furniture (I'm not sure what currency you're using but you could probably buy your own set of designer furniture with the money you save.) If you were talking about buying these, I would reverse my answer.

I'd go for the second one. The 12k per year saved opens up a lot of options and the increased spending cash lets you enjoy life rather than just maintaining. If you go the savings route, over the course of the two years you mentioned living there it would add up to a decent chunk of change. Zero debt, cash in the bank, and low cost of living trump excess any day in my opinion.

if there is no air conditioning i wouldnt want south exposure, even tho i thrive in direct light, i really dislike hot sleeps!

although newer is better for air quality reasons.

they seem fairly similar otherwise

i used to have to spend half my salary on rent .. it made life seem like i was swimming backwards ... i could not keep my head above water.

learn my lesson .. save on your living costs until costs are liveable.

or fuck it and live for the day .. i was told yesterday i worry too much about tomorow

The one closer to her belly button, silly. Some people like the other one too, but that's just icky.

25% of net income isn't so bad, is it? In most European countries it's 33-40%.

Right. That's incredibly cheap then isn't it for those apartments in a place like beijing?
That's only 80 quid a week in uk money.

We need more of your type in this world

personally i'm more of a live in the moment kinda guy so i'd go for the first one. but if you're more of a cautious "wait and see" type of person then go with the second one. first one will be awesome enough to last you a long time. second one will get you by but better allow you tthe option to upgrade later on.
Grandpa Stu makes sense here too.

Got to ask feedback (no one has) is your friend living with you? If so I am still leaning toward number 1

My gf will be visiting maybe every other weekend, other wise I'll be with her in HK. I've decided to go for the second apt because I'd rather have the extra money to spend on tranny hookers in Macao and HK than chill on my hot leather sofa.

I just worked mine out at 11%. Place is great for the cash but I should probably be looking at something in the city centre and spending a bit more. Does mean I'm saving a bunch which can't be bad. Down side is I literally live in a basement.

It's a basement with a hilltop view, 2 full-wall windows and a view straight out over the cook straight, but it's still a basement ;P

I'd find something in town, but all the apartments are in high-rises on The Terrace, which is right on a major fault line. The stupidity of that is... uh... stupifying.

Hells, if you're hardly going to be there then the smaller one's the better choice. Still, you'll have to keep after the dead hooker disposal or you're going to be rather cramped.

First one. Making more money is easy, moving is not. Second one seems more like a hotel, and the first seems more like somewhere you can live and entertain.
