i have to disagree with you. i think that modern pop music is still good music for its intended audience. like you said, the "artist" is there only for the public image. he has nothing to do with the actual music that you hear. all the musical talent comes from the producers, and, trust me, they really know what they're doing.obsidian wrote:Quite simply, modern pop music is about the image, not about the music.
the masses don't want this - the masses don't "understand" the intricacies of a well composed piece. They want to hear their regular tempo with a well trodden verse/chorus/verse/chorus layout and predictable phrasing and lyrical topics - they feel safe and in familiar territory here & in many ways even the most extreme music is like this. Everyone can 'bop' to a simple, catchy repetitive tune - some people would feel 'threatened' if the music had too much talent in it... then could never just tap their feet or 'hum along' with everyone else because a deeper understanding of music would be requried... this isn't what the pop industry is about. But I want to see the top 10 dominated by *musicians* again, and not by marketing fabrications.
This is possibly the only thing that could make me enter and remain in a mall for longer than 5 minutes.Eraser wrote:shopping mall played ... The Mars Volta as background music.
