mostly freaks, but the bottom row 4th from left looks normal enough

Call me naive, but aren't these pictures photoshopped by some internet troll to make them look hideous? For some reason the proportions (or rather, the aspect ratio) of all their faces seems skewed. They also look extremely over exposed and washed out. I don't think any modelling agency would make such photographs for a portfolio.

Just to be clear, I'm not contesting here that all pictures of models in magazines/ads/whatever are heavily photoshopped to make them look better. It's just that these pics seem photoshopped to do exactly the opposite.

Nope, the photo is legit. Louis Vuitton used it on their LOVE blog last year. To be fair to the models, the lighting is very unflattering (white bg + strong flash/front lighting = the typical overexposed photobooth effect we all hate) but it isn't digitally edited. Modeling agencies like the weird facial aspect ratios, since they tend to work well on catwalks + photoshoots under the proper lighting/makeup. Look at Lily Cole for example.

Did i ever tell you guys about the time i infiltrated a catwalk show? It was pretty cool, i was drinking beers on a nearby terrace you see, and i kept seeing these really upper class hipsters walk out of expensive cars and into a large tent i'd never seen before. It was guarded by two incredibly beautiful 20 somethings who checked everyone's names on a list. But they refused me and quickly copped an attitude... so i chatted up some older lady who was obviously in charge into giving me a no-show ticket. She snapped at the 20somethings and they grudgingly let me in.... and let me say it was one of the weirdest experiences ever. The movie Zoolander is actually much less of a comedy than you'd think. And the girls... poor things. They're all frighteningly young and waay too thin, you just want to run up to em and stuff some food in their mouths. There was a Spanish photographer lady who took the trouble of describing what i was seeing & answering my many questions while she was clicking away, so that was nice.

Any idea what the purpose of these photos was? Why would anyone want their models to look ugly? Just curious.

not to mention these photos completely miss the point as to why these particular individuals where employed as models.
