Although upper body strength doesn't hurt, most of those guys are wearing clip-less pedals. It enables you to get much higher jumps because you pull the bike up with your pedals as you launch using your legs so really strong leg and back muscles are probably more important than upper body strength here. I used to do stuff like this but not this extreme when younger. I've dropped from 7ft high onto a paved parking lot which is about the same height as the start of this video although I didn't have a full on jump bike like his my mountainbike had a full suspension which helped cushion high jumps which I did often in races.

trials / parkour/ whatever bikes are fairly inexpensive, and light they are not, as light and sound beatings do not go hand in hand. The work those guys do in a day is honest. Leech is a BEAST (bro is my hero on the mountain circuit, esp. downhill gnarly madness)

I didn't really talk about prices and I can't tell if they are or aren't wearing any but I don't see why they wouldn't. You get much higher jumps with them.

I've just finished a 40 mile loop climbing over 2000ft. I know that's not much but tomorrow i'll do the same again and on Friday i'll do at least 50+.

2010 I did 1800 mi, Elv Gain 99000 ft.
2011 I did 1300 mi, Elv Gain 70000 ft.
2012 i'm at 700 mi, Elv Gain 8000 ft.

I'm not even trying, this is just riding for fun and health.

I know why some might not but I'm sure some do, you just have more control over the bike in the air. I know because I've been there.

I used to race downhill and cross country and even won at a national event against sponsored riders. I often jumped 15-20ft jumps on a regular basis but not like they did, down a track/obstacle course. I know the value of clipless pedals. Once you're used to them it's easy to pop out of if you need to.

BTW, we call them clipless pedals as clipped pedals are the ones with those big ass clips that fit over your toes, might be a regional thing.

FYI, those are impressive numbers for cycling, most don't cycle that much. When I was racing I cycled 40km/s on my off days and 170+ every other day. The trip was from a small village named Richibuctou Village to a city called Moncton if you care to check the mileage on google maps. I went both ways, there and back in one day and would take me 8 hours on my mountainbike and around 6ish hours on my road bike.

So unless you're going to tell me the reason why they wouldn't use clipless pedals I don't see why they wouldn't. You get more power, better jumps and more control so yeah... I'm still not following you.

The only thing I could THINK might be a reason is to be able to bail easily and I raced in some pretty technical courses but would still take clipless over nothing.

I clip in for XC. I wouldn't dream of clipping in for DH, ever, and i don't know anyone who does. I've met this guy a few times at events in North Wales and he uses flats.

Yeah but you've yet to state why which I've asked twice now. IF you don't clip in, why is that? Wouldn't they get better jump distance? More control? I obviously don't do stunt jumps I was just into racing.
