It's not at all bad to be honest. I found it a pretty good FPS overall, although not as open as the original or Warhead. But it does allow for multiple approaches to situations (although it has the annoying habit of labelling a lot of these approaches too).
It's also a little too easy, even on the highest difficulty, and it's even possible to bypass whole sections via stealth. But it looks great, performs well, and has a nice, solid feel. And I really sympathised with the player character Alcatraz by the end of the game. Ignoring the alien invasion bunkum, there's actually some neat post-human sci-fi going on there.
I still think Far Cry 2 is the best game to have come from Far Cry, even though Crytek had nothing to do with it. Sure, it was very repetitive, but the Heart of Darkness story was pretty damn good and I had no end of fun with IEDs. Plus, it was a completely open world instead of a series of massive but linear levels.
